p_diddy_datsyuk_13 2 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 After reading a comment from Ken Holland on the Detroit News' website (I will leave the link below), it sparked my interest as to whom the Red Wings may target with Jiri Hudler gone. "Certainly if there was someone out there with the capability of scoring 10-20 goals, we'd be interested." There has been some talk of Ales Kotalik, and he would certainly fit the bill of this type of player. He is capable of at least 20 goals, though he has struggled the last couple years, but if the Wings can offer him around $2 million I think they may be able to get him. Kotalik would provide a monster shot, something we have lost three of (Hudler, Hossa and Samuelsson), and I think that is something the Wings are looking for... Another player they could look at, Maxim Afinogenov. He has struggled mightily the last couple of years and for a low salary, and with the Wings' history of bringing in players who turn their careers around, he may be a possibility to fill out the final roster spot, though he would have to do it at a low price, likely less than $1 million for a year, but a change of scenery may do him some good from the Buffalo Sabres who have struggled the last couple of years. Detroit News - Jiri Hudler signs with Russian team, won't play for Wings

Detroit News - Jiri Hudler signs with Russian team, won't play for Wings I would rather just bring in a couple of forwards that are more physical than the 4 we lost combined instead of brining in more inconistent softies. Afinogenov desperately needs to go to the KHL.

Afinogenov desperately needs to go to the KHL. I think Kotalik could thrive here for the right price and make a great compliment with Filppula and Franzen on the second line. Afinogenov though is complete inconsistent, soft garbage. The guy has the talent that convinces teams to take a chance on him and often over pay him, but to me, he'll always remind me of Sergei Samsonov, a player who never ceases to find a team based solely on a good year or two and potential. Kotalik Afinogenov

NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 Like Opie, I have a strange sense of déja vu. Grier's last contract paid him more than he was worth. Moen is like Chris Neil; I'd like to have him on the team, but once again, I see him asking more than he is worth. I'd like Blair Betts.

South Dakota wings fan 7 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 I would like Kotalik and Moen/Grier I think getting some grinders that can chip in the occasional goal, and willing to drop the gloves occasionally would go a long way for them next season. I think it would also help players to better "know their role". We could use some McCarty/Lapointe from their prime type of guys on the 3rd and 4th line. egroen 384 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 Moen would be great -- but you still have to find someone who can put up points (and I do not care if he does not play defense worth a lick and is 120 lbs). Tanguay, Afinogenov, Kotalik... hell, Bertuzzi -- someone who has at least shown they are capable of putting up more than 20 pts.

Opie 308 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 ME, they should sign a 32 year old who is now almost 3 years removed from surgery to repair a smashed Tibial Platuea, torn meniscus, and torn PCL, with chronic shoulder and back problems I have a horrible shot, can't skate to worth a hill of beans and am probably the most uncoordinated white guy you have ever seen. However the I have Red Hair and soon the Wings are going to need another Red head.

xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 Like Opie, I have a strange sense of déja vu. Grier's last contract paid him more than he was worth. Moen is like Chris Neil; I'd like to have him on the team, but once again, I see him asking more than he is worth. I'd like Blair Betts. They are similar yes, But Neil is alot more proven in both his Fighting and Scoring. Neil is a willing fighter, he buzzes looking for hits, he'll take on anyone regardless of mismatch, he also can put up consistant points. Neils 2m contract is a reflection of Ottawa not wanting to give him up, His FA Value isn't/wasn't 2m. It's more or less in the 1.5-1.8 range. Moen's toughest competition last year was Boll and Fedoruk. In the Boll fight he faired well they were both swinging for the fences, But against Fedoruk he got himself handed to him, But in all fairness he dropped the gloves to fight Jovo, but Fedoruk got in the middle of things. Overall, Neil will fight heavies and will do well, where as Moen is a LHW fighter at best, but fights has been fighting Middleweights and Relative Non Fighters more so then Heavies. Which isn't a bad thing, heavies are a thing of the past, But the intimidation factor would be lacking. You take into account that Moen isn't the same physically as Neil, That deducts some $$, You take out the fact that Moen was only a 20 point getter ONCE in his career, Where Neil has been Three times. I can see Moen getting a slight raise from last years 900k contract, Maybe into the 1.2m range. But with alot of teams already spending there money, Moen might have to take less on a 1 yr just to prove himself.. IMO.
