Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) With all these changes going on, who thinks the Leafs can make the playoffs this year? It's not like they can get any worse... Edited July 9, 2009 by Lovin Jiri Fischer

Rice 42 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 Their defense is good but their forwards suck. The problem with trading Kaberle for a forward is they'll have no offense coming from the blue line. I'd give them two years.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 I believe they will. 81 points last year, and I watched them alot, they were garbage. They've gotten bigger, tougher, and harder to play against, plus there better. People talk about them having a bad offence, 250 goals for. More then Jersey, the Rangers, Ottawa, Montreal, Carolina, Florida, and the same as Buffalo. They arent done yet either. With 4 mil in space right now, and probably going to be moving Frogren and Finger out to make room, they'll have near 8million to add some defensive forwards (Moen, Betts, Niedermayer have been mentioned) and of course, Burkies faves (Bertuzzi, Morrison, May) They'll be an interesting team, I could see them anywhere from 5th-11th depending on a ton of different things. BlakKy 58 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 I bet they will make it. One of the better D corps int he east coupled with the ability to score 250 goals. Thats a berth in the playoffs for sure. The criticism of their offense is a bit unfounded. Their scoring is just very evenly spread, just no top end guys that will be making the all-star team anytime soon. Superman54 91 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 I told my brother (huge maple leafs fan) they would place 7th. The Monster will get them there.
Yak19 303 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) D Beauchimen Komisarek Schenn Finger Exelby White Frogren Forwards Hagmen Blake Pony-Car Grabovski Mitchell (who showed great potential last year) Kulemin Mayers Stempniak Stajan Orr May Hanson Trade up Kaberle and get some more offense They have a tough D, Bow-cheese-man will be there biggest offensive threat from the blue line. Schenn is only getting better. I think they can sneak in, depends on what other moves they make and who they bring in. Edited July 9, 2009 by Yak19

Up front, I'd be shocked if Jiri Tlusty wasn't on the team after how he performed for the Marlies last year.

My mistake this was just off the top of my head. Why was Tlusty constantly being sent down last year? he should have been playing. I like Stralman

ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted July 10, 2009 Up front, I'd be shocked if Jiri Tlusty wasn't on the team after how he performed for the Marlies last year. I'm shocked Tlusty is still brave enough to show his face around Toronto. He's certainly shown everything else

shoe 165 Report post Posted July 10, 2009 I think they will make it, damn I hope they do just for the cities sake they need some post season hockey here its just not the same. Im in no way a leaf fan but I do like to see excitement in this city. As stated above I think they will and I think they will give who ever they play a real hard time may not win but could hurt some teams chances maybe the pens can run into them in the 1st round and then hit philly in the second or 3rd. T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted July 10, 2009 I'd like to see them make a run for it... it's been too long I concur their defense is stellar but offense is lacking....
newfy 695 Report post Posted July 10, 2009 Their offence isnt quite as anemic as you would think. Blake said the cancer didnt affect his play but i think it did he could come back with a strong season. Hagman can put up 25 goals, Kulemin is going to be a top 6 forward in the nhl, they signed Bozak and Hnason who might help, Stempniak and tlusti are no slouches. I'm not saying their offence is amazing but theyre not in that bad of shape. If the monster and the d really do some damage they wont need to score a whole lot anyways. I've been hearing rumours of kaberle for Sharpe? Sharpe would really help as well but theres noone to get the puck to the forwards besides stralman if that happens
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted July 10, 2009 I'm sorry, this is driving me nuts.... When saying something along the lines of "they're going to be better" it is short for they are it is - THEY'RE - like "they're going to be better" / not THERE, as in "hey look over THERE" I see that on this board all the time and I saw it in this thread... sorry for snapping, that's probably my biggest grammar annoyance

I think they'll find it harder to score this year with at least the expectations of being in the playoff race.
