What if Dallas Drake played 1 more season

Any thoughts if Dallas Drake had played 1 more season for the Wings minus Hossa who rather signed with Edmonton during the 2008-2009 season. Also do you think the outcome would be any different when we played Pittsburgh in the SCF rematched? I want to hear from other wing fans on this forum. This is my first post on LGW website by the way. GO RED WINGS!!!!

Welcome to LGW! Definitely a debate worthy question.

Personally, I think Dally ended the season with absolutely nothing left in the tank. I think he measured it out perfectly, that he would give it his absolute all at 100mph and leave it all on thei ice. It was a perfect storm for Dally, not so sure he could replicate it.

On the other hand, Hossa's contribution in the playoffs was car pool gas money for a ride to the home games and that was about it.

Drake would have been able to muster up a little more than that.

Hmm. The world will never know.

What if Crosby had a penis?

What if Yashin panned out and Pronger didnt?

What if Michael Jackson was still black?

What if Phoenix had money?

What if the Wings selected Barrasso or Cam Neely instead of Yzerman?

What if the Wings were healthy throughout the entire playoffs?

What if there was never a lockout?

What if Fedorov didn't hold outthe first part of the season in 96?

What if Lance Armstrong never got testicular cancer?

What if Dan Heatley and Dan Snyder switched fates?

What if...What if...What if...

Drake wouldnt have scored 40 goals in the regular season. Drake wouldnt have scored 6 goals in the playoffs..Nor would he have prevented the injuries the Wings suffered..Drake wasnt the answer, yes he brought another dimension to the team..but he did not win us the cup and most likely wouldnt have been the deciding factor to this years outcome..

If the Wings brought Drake and Odjick and Probert back from retirement they would have won the UF--- I mean, Stanley Cup Championship. End of story. This team's inability to win the cup clearly lies with not having Drake or Downey.

Nobody knows. Could Drake have made enough a positive impact to help win it all? Perhaps, perhaps not. It's all what ifs in the past though, and nobody can guess those things.

Welcome aboard!

Starting a thread with you're first post is dumb.

Asking a redundant question is equally dumb.

I think you'll fit right in.

Way to be an a'hole.

I'm gonna get my butt lunkered again for bringing this up again, but hey, a new person means a new audience for my views, right?

During the '08 season (especially the playoffs) and after we got the Cup, players talked about how much they wanted to win one for Dally. All those years in the league, living apart from his family (which included a child born right before training camp), the effort he put into it... the guys were bent on getting him that Cup so he wouldn't have to retire without one.

Obviously they wanted to win it for themselves as well, but Mac and Ozzie told reporters that after you've won it, you want to give your teammates the experience as well.

Dally went balls to the wall for that Cup. He was a focal point for the other guys. Hossa didn't inspire that same determination. He has plenty of years left in him to win one (keeping in mind that no one knew where he would be playing in the future or for how long).

If you consider all other factors equal between the two seasons, the drive to win it for Dallas was greater than the drive to win it for Hossa.

Of course, all other factors weren't equal. This year's injuries were greater, playing the Sucks was a lot harder than playing Dallas (as in Stars, not Drake) the previous year, and the Duckies wore us down badly, so we were far more the worse for wear heading into the SCF.

I don't think that having Drake on the team would have had the impact that it did in '08.

Just my opinion.

Remember: opinions are like noses. You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose.

As someone said, Dally wouldn't have scored 40 goals during the season, so the Wings would have finished lower because I don't think he would have magically made the Wings play better D last season or made Ozzie play better during the regular season so minus 40 goals, even if some guys stepped up a little more, would have been hard to do. And while Hossa didn't score much in the playoffs his goals came in important games, minus the 4th game against the Jackets. How big were those 2 goals in game 4 against the Ducks? So maybe the Wings don't even get to the WCF's. You switch out thsoe two and I think the season is toally different. Could be a Cup, could be a 1st or 2nd round exit. Also I think Hossa stayed in Pitt and didn't go to the Oilers had he not signed here. He gave up 50mil over 7 years to take a 1 year deal so I think he would take the 7.5mil from the Pens over the 9mil a year from Edmonton, or at least I would.

first off, welcome.

next, there really are so many what if's in this world, and although they're fun to think about (and sometimes gut wrenching) there's no real way to know how it would have worked out, so one can't really compare what ifs to certainties.

On that note, what if the Tigers had taken Carl Crawford for Jair Jurrjens straight up at the end of 07 at the deadline, rather than waiting to the off season and trading him for Renteria - that's the what if that wrenches my gut the most...

Welcome to LGW. I appologise for the assholes who greeted you by being , well, assholes. It kinda throws a wrench in the "Detroit has classy fans" myth, eh?

Anyhouse, Dallas Drake? I loved Dallas Drake. I suspect that with Dallas Drake instead of Hossa, the Wings would have had a great season, a deep playoff run and no Cup. Kinda like we did with Hossa.

what if hank hill sold charcoal?

His food might have a slightly better taste. And then they'd write Al Gore to come into the show to scold Hank. Then Beavis and Butthead would whack it in his toolshed. Excellent question there.

This. I thought the Wings lacked any sort of inspiration last season, not that they didn't try hard. Just... some spark was missing. Hossa didn't bring it, in so many ways, sadly. I still love the guy, but he didn't get the job done when it mattered. With that, and all the injuries, I am pretty proud they got to game seven at all.

No, to Dally returning, however. Only get to play that card one time, I think.

Welcome to the forum, OP!
