Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted July 22, 2009 Crosby was shadowed by the Wings best players. Talbot was not. You can say whatever you want about those two games (game seven in the SCF and game six of the quarterfinals), but at the end of the day it was Crosby who led his team as a captain and Malkin who led his team as a forward. Talbot was a great role player, but you are kidding yourself to think he was the sole reason the Penguins won the cup, or even the biggest reason. But please, don't let me stop you. What are you talking about??? Talbot played on their 2nd line with Malkin (games # 3 @ 7)... They played vs Detroit 2nd line and not 4th line...
newfy 695 Report post Posted July 22, 2009 Well that does it, give the C to Talbot. The Pens would be nowhere without him. If he didn't score in the finals or Game 7 the Pens would have never even made the playoffs. [/quote I'm not sure what youre getting at. The pens would have made the playoffs without him but they wouldn't have won the cup. Without his 2 goals in game 7 we're hanging up another banner in detroit next season. Just curious, have you had good luck in real life persuading others to see things your way by employing sarcasm instead of reason? I see you post sarcasm and strawman arguements, but seldom do I see any real....anything. There are posters that I often disagree with that have made me rethink my positions on this or that, but never by being a ******. Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted July 22, 2009 I was answering the subsequent question "Will we have an answer for Eager?" My answer was "nope, status quo" I agree with you that signing Downey won't keep our other guys from doing as our other guys do. they're going to do their thing, he'll do his. I haven't often seen it argued that a toughguy will make us win more games or win the Cup - and yet that's the strawman that so many here sarcasticly respond to. Look at this thread alone. I take the time to respond to you because I think you're smarter than they are. Now, I understansd that Wings' management is tasked with putting together a team that can win. They are also tasked with putting together a team that will enthrall it's fans and make money. Neither winning nor income have been real big problems for the wings in recent memory. It is my contention that dressing a toughguy durring the regular season will not result in less wins, but will likely result in even greater interest in the product. Downey has demonstrated that he is a popular player among fans. He has demonstrated that he will play for peanuts. He has demonstrated that he does not cost the Wings games when he is played. What's not to love?

That is a great defensive line in your opinion? For your info - Hudler played on 4th line... 2nd line = Franzen - Flip - Hossa (not so bad) Stuart - Kronwall are Detroit 2nd def pairing - so YES I expect from them to stop him... Hudler was on the ice for Talbot's second goal. Stuart is not a great defensive player, and Kronwall isn't detroit's "best". No matter what you try to do to spin it Talbot DIDN'T play against Detroit's top players.

So what are you saying is that Kronwall and Stuart are not good enough to stop Maxim Talbot...

So what are you saying is that Kronwall and Stuart are not good enough to stop Maxim Talbot... What I'm saying is comparing Crosby to Talbot simply based on points in the FINALS is completely baseless, considering what Crosby did in the previous rounds, what Malkin did in the previous rounds, and who Crosby had to face in the finals. That was my entire point.

Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2009 (edited) Then WHY EVERYBODY WANTED HOSSA TO LEAVE?!?!?!?! Because: 1. Hossa wasn't playing against some of the best defensive players in the game. 2. Hossa didn't do well in THE ENTIRE PLAYOFFS Edited July 22, 2009 by Doc Holiday
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted July 23, 2009 Malkin was far more important than Talbot in the Finals. Lest we forget it was his massive reach picking off Stuart's ill-advised clearing attempt that created the first goal, and that he had five points in Pittsburgh's Game 3 and 4 wins.
