Swayze 81 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 Just for arguements sake...Sammy had 40 points last year- Williams had 47 points. Thats his 2nd highest year in career points....and with Columbus!! 2.5 is alot...but Sammy got more for less in Van ( and was HORRID at the point on the PP) We'll see when there is a reliable announcement Most of those points were AGAINST Detroit though.... That was Doogie Howser you saw..... although I wouldn't be that alarmed - Williams still has a house here (which he rents).

b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 WTF!!!! I leave internet for a single weekend and come back to hear we offer JASON WILLIAMS a $2.5 mil contract!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... *deep breath*... OOOOOOOOOOOOO! What about lets also bring back Lang, Bertuzzi, and Calder.... didn't we already trade Williams once because he sucks ass? Why are the Wings replacing Samuelsson with his understudy?
AD2044 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 He WAS NOT offered 2.5 million dollars a year! if he was he would have already been a red wing.

P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 You fellas are weeeird. The sum of the offer has not been confirmed anywhere. The Wings need a forward who can play 2nd and 3rd lines. Jason Williams can do that. Plus, who knows how many contract offers Holland has done this summer. Williams might be just one of his many options.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 he's lost his marbles, pass the torch over to Stevey Y The best GM in hockey should pass the torch to someone whose best argument for getting the job is "he's a hall of fame player"? WTF? No one of any importance has confirmed the value of this contract. I don't buy for a second that Williams was offered anything near 2 million. According to his interview he was offered the contract last week and apparently he sounded non-committal.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 People need to chill out about this. According to George Malik Williams doesn't sound like he wants to take the offer: Update 6:46 PM: AM 640 has a pain-in-the-butt user interface, but you can listen to the interview here in Flash format (and it's hard to transcribe an interview you can't pause or rewind). In all honesty, he doesn't sound all that excited about the Red Wings' offer--he still sounds a bit miffed about the way things happened during the 06-07 season--and he's sounds like a man who still wants to play the market (and earn more money). When someone says, "Under certain circumstances, a deal could get done, but the ball's in their court right now, and that's part of the negotiating process," before noting that the Red Wings have "cap issues"...He suggested that he hopes to play "in the NHL next year," not necessarily with Detroit. He actually sounds more enthusiastic about returning to Columbus, but they haven't offered him a deal, so it "wouldn't be too bad" to head back to Detroit. He just doesn't sound like someone who's all that interested in becoming a Detroit Red Wing again. If he was offered 2.5 million he'd have taken it, not sit around stating the ball's in Detroit's court.

The offer was actually a lot lower, and obviously lower than Williams was lookin for. We can Safely say it was under 2m. My guess is 1.5, but who knows. I think I am the only person that actually wants him, he is 100% better than Sammy. At least he can pass, and he is a pretty strong skater. Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Jason Williams= Undertalented version of Robert Lang. The Great E_S_A_D has spoken, and yes... I confirm it... it's true.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 1.5 million per or less, and I would welcome Williams back with open arms. Tomas Holmstrom - Pavel Datsyuk - Henrik Zetterberg Dan Cleary - Valterri Filppula - Johan Franzen Ville Leino - Darren Helm - Jason Williams Kirk Maltby - Kris Draper - Mike Grier If we could start the season with those forwards, I'd feel confident in our chances.
