I hope it happens. :rotflmao: You have to wonder if the NHL would "probe" a 3-year contract between Chelios and ANY NHL Team. I would think not! I mean he really thinks he'll be able to play that long, and hell who am I or the NHL to say he can't. Of course, the Rangers would be smart to make this a 2-way deal. Also, how legit is this NHLSOURCESSAY?? Same people who said Sundin and/or Shanny to the Wings, right?
Chase 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Dear Chelios, Please hang up the skates, and come coach behind the Wings bench in place of McCrimmon. Sincerely, Most Wings fans.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Good for Cheli, I like to watch the Rangers, but Avery and Chelios on the Rangers?
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 It'd be a good move for the Rangers. Chelios can still play. I think he would be a full-time guy on the Rangers, though it might be safe to make it a 2-way.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Also, how legit is this NHLSOURCESSAY?? Same people who said Sundin and/or Shanny to the Wings, right? I follow them on Twitter and they seem fairly legit. They mentioned that the Wings were pursuing Sundin (almost a certainty since Holland's pursued him twice before), but nothing about Shanny. It's well known that Shanny wants to stay in the NY area because his kids go to school there so anyone who is speculating Shanny to Detroit (probably) doesn't know enough about the circumstances. Good to know Drake. I guess I blobbed the 2 rumors (shanny and sundin) together assuming both were posted by NHLSOURCES. I have since started following them on Twitter. They don't have a lot of followers, but hey, hockey is hockey on Twitter!! lol
rage 24 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Outta curiosity is there anyone else pursuing Sundin, or are the Wings pretty much the front runners? I'd say Mats has got a few years left in the tank. I figured the Wings' rumors to be just that; rumors. Why doesn't he go back to Vancouver?? I forget.

Well excuse me for trying to relive 1997. God dang these Euro ******* with their robot complex and they're methodical ways. Y'all here want to refer to that as "intelligence." What in the dang old hell does that mean? Either the hockey rink is a biological hazard with blood and teeth all over the ice or it's just not worth watching. I think he would be a full-time guy on the Rangers, though it might be safe to make it a 2-way. Since he's over 35, would his NHL salary still count against the cap even if he was playing at a lower salary in the minors? (Assuming we're talking about the 3-year deal here.) Guest Shoreline Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Yup. The Rangers don't mind throwing money away, so it should be no problem.
Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 I think this is great news. Chelios still wants to play and I think he can. He still has gas in the tank, and I woul dlove to see him keep it going as long as he is able.
Pucks 66 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Chelios is beyond finished. If Sather throws a 3 year contract at him he should be fired. It wouldn't surprise me though because he's one of the worst GM's in the league.
Dimaline312000 51 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 I personally think that Chelly should strictly stick to one year deals and take it from their. At his age as he and his body get's older and mother nature keeps doing what she does to the human body, he really can't look that for ahead becaue anything can happen. I don't see why the Rangers would even want to think about looking that for ahead at a player that age. Chelly is a great player I'm not trying to take anything away from him but he has to face facts that his age is going to limit him.
WingZNut13 99 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 Look I love Cheli to death. I have watched him a ton over the years...But, IMO, he needs to hang up the skates. We got burnt on several goals in the playoffs because he couldn't keep up. I don't even know how many during the season. I think he would be a great person to have behind the bench of the Wings. I really just don't want Cheli to turn into the next Farve. Where he decides he wants to retire and play and retire and play and so on and so on. Hang up the skates....put on a tie....grab a clipboard....and help the Wings get back to the SCF.

I don't think you can compare the two seeing as how Cheli hasn't done the retire, comeback, retire, comeback, retire thing that Favre has done. I think that after he is done playing then to grab the tie and board, but as of right now I still think that he can contribute on the ice no matter where he is. I think that after he is done playing then to grab the tie and board, but as of right now I still think that he can contribute on the ice no matter where he is. While I somewhat agree that Chelly can still contribute on the ice. Seeing him at camp the past two seasons he was always the last one on the ice and the first one off the ice and out the door. Now I know that that is a part of his age but at the same time that is the point. His age is limiting him. I also think he may have lost some of his work-ethic. I'm not saying he can't still be a little useful on the ice but as more of a fill-in player of on the very last Defensive Pairing. I think he'd be better served as a Assitant Coach or even a head Coaching job in the AHL or in the NHL if he can find one. He is a good player but he was a great player. I understand he wants to play with his son one day but he has to be realistic as to what his body can and cannot do. The past couple seasons his play has result in goals against the Wings or penalties that have either resulted in a goal or made our PK work harder than need-be. It's up to him but he needs to do what is best for him but understand where the team that does want to sign him is coming from whether it be the Rangers or not.
