Aaron Downey gets NHL Coyotes try-out

You caught me, I wasn't a fan until Holland started bringing in a bunch of soft Euros and stopped Dressing tough guys. I was so mad when they brought McCarty back, and I will continue to be mad until there are 12 five foot Euro forwards on the ice for all twenty minutes. And they should fire Babcock too. He is too tough for Detroit. Bring in a pillow with a face to coach the team. And hang bedsheets with pink bunnies on them along each side of him to coach the defense, offense, and special teams.

I got a good laugh out of that after reading some of the pro-enforcer stuff on these boards.

I'll miss Downey, as well as McCarty. I was excited every time they played with the wings. I really hope Downey finds a roster spot somewhere. Hopefully Dmac can find some type of job in Detroit. He could make a good mentor for "what not to do". He'll always be one of my favorites. When we do get another enforcer someday, I hope they play like Shanny. Not afraid to drop the gloves and puts some pucks in the net.

Hmmm, let me guess on the redundancy of this thread...

9 pages- 12 I'm guessing.

A bunch of people will make strong valid points of why he was valuable, then you'll have the naysayers say how he was useless. Then a fight will happen in 2010 or a bad hit and the Enforcer crowd will say that those shots can be diminished to a degree, hence how often has Sidney Crosby been cheap shotted badly so far? Not much. Then you'll have those saying 'no no no, enforcers are a myth'.

I give up on even giving my points in these threads anymore. I will say one generality and that is- it is VERY apparent to me those that have been fans of hockey more or less than 10 years. It stands out like a sore thumb.

Way more than that, buddy. Wait till micah and Shoreline hit this thread. :hehe:

No one here has said he was useless. I don't believe anyone has said enforcers are a myth either.

Eh, I don't care enough to participate - unless people start posting a bunch of dope-ass goalie cheapshots, in which case I'll be in here applauding.

I just got off the phone with Shoreline, he isn't planning on participating either.

Manning up on a one-on-one fight and running another team's goalie. That's the same.

Don't try to gloss over the fact that Aaron Downey did something stupid when he played for the Griffins.

You are a tool bro. I mean do you know the reason he ran the other teams goalie? Did you watch hockey before the year 2004? My guess is that your answer to both those questions are no.

Here is the clip of Downey "running" the goalie too for all those folks apparently still outraged over the incident:

So aside from this argument thats going on here. What do people here who know about the griffs actually think about Tardif? Could he eventually be a bottom liner for this team? Is he a huge hitter or just a capable hitter? When the gloves come off how well does he do?

He seems like an intriguiing prospect, if Nill is telling hom to workout with Downey then he must factor into this teams future eventually right?

Yes I know the reason. Doesn't make it less cowardly or stupid.

And yes I watched hockey before 2004. Take your "since you have a negative opinion about what an enforcer did you are a euro loving bandwagoner" bulls*** elsewhere.

Also, that isn't the right clip. You don't even have the right goaltender, or the right team. Either you don't remember the hit at all or you are purposely trying to mislead those who haven't seen the hit to prove your point.

May 2, 2009 vs. Manitoba? If that's the game, I've seen the clip but can't find it now. And, Downey somehow avoided a suspension.

He avoided a suspension because its hockey and stuff like that happens. It was a 2 minute penalty yes but running goalies happens in hockey all the time. In a blowout game thats his job. Get under the other teams skin, get them off their game, throw the goalie off of his focus and maybe you'll put some goals in. He did his job perfectly.

I know it's not really relivant, but most goalies I played against, were absolute dickheads. Seriously, blockers flying everywhere, one year I got challenged by goalies to fight 5 times! What Downs did was only a big deal because it was in the AHL, I've seen much worse done over much less. I mean it's not like he dove into the other teams bench and started chucking punches at the whole team or anything.

Exactly..some people can't get that through their thick skulls.

How did GR do in that game and the series anyway?

Keep your head up goalie.

Good ole cheapshot.

Heh.

Meh. Minor compared to Bert's famous cheapshot. If we're gonna discuss cheapshots, let's talk about that one.

/because we never talk about that one.
