GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted September 24, 2009 Sammy totally punked him out last year. Great faceoff man, though.

Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted September 24, 2009 1 yr, $700,000 according to Capgeek. Puts them slightly over cap even with the bonus cushion, but they have 13 forwards now so they'll likely send someone like McGinn or one of their young defensemen down. Would have liked him in a Wing sweater. I think he'd be a solid checking line center. Sharks have made some nice moves, though even with this one, their bottom 6 forwards still seem like a weakness. If Sharks top line doesn't produce, this team will have trouble. They have no depth and no money to make significant changes later in the year. Nabokov will be over-used (again). I htink teams go after the Sharks the way the Ducks played them in the playoffs. The more I think about it, I just don't see this team being as dominant in the reg season as last year. uncle ovipositor 6 Report post Posted September 24, 2009 Sharks have made some nice moves, though even with this one, their bottom 6 forwards still seem like a weakness. With a 3rd line of Ferriero-Malhotra-Mitchell and a 4th of Staubitz-Shelly-Mcginn I think they're going to be okay. Mitchell's return to the ice is a big deal, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him and Clowe swapping lines. Staubitz churned Tootoo into butter, and for that alone pretty much everyone in the hockey world owes him. It's going to be an interesting year in San Jose. Carman 387 Report post Posted September 24, 2009 Sharks will definitely have a nice season. Just depends how far Nabokov can hold up and Heatley can carry Thornton through the playoffs to see how far they can go.
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 Malhotra for $700,000? Nah! I'd much rather have Jason Williams for $1.5 million! Serioulsy, I had heard (maybe in here) that Malhotra's camp contacted Holland prior to the whole Hudler fiasco and Holland wasn't interested. I wonder what Manny's terms were back then because I would think that $700,000 for a year is exactly the kind of contract Holland would like. Not saying anything bad about Holland, or not insuiating ANYTHING else, but Malhotra & Moen at $2.2M is a helluva ton better on ice than Williams and Eaves at $2.0M. Added Bertuzzi, I would think a lineup with Bertuzzi - Moen - Malhotra would be a little harder to play against than Bertuzzi - Williams - Eaves... I'm just saying... LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) I think when Malhotra came to us we were still thinking to keep Hudler. Ya, and probably his salary expectations were a little higher too. G.D. you Hudler, I hope you rot in Russia! Why dont look up your old buddy Butsyev and hang out with him?!?!? I still think Bert/Moen/Malhotra are leaps and bunds better than Bert/Williams/Eaves. Edited September 25, 2009 by LeftWinger
TheSupafly 50 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 Very pleased to have Malhotra on board. He's a solid addition at a bargain of a price. Ideally I'd love to see him on the 3rd line with both Mitchell and McGinn, but Mitchell is out for now with tendinitis in his knee....that kid can't stay healthy so I'm not getting my hopes up about having him back. He was sorely missed last year and will be again this year if he can't get back on the ice for an extended period of time. Malhotra will likely end up replacing him instead of complimenting him.
