uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted September 27, 2009 (to uk_wing) I take it you're from michigan so perhaps you dont have much choice than support the wings Nope. Im 100% unAmerican. There are various random reasons for why I support Detroit. None of which have anything to do with winning hockey games/playoffs before anyone calls me a bandwagoner. syntax 359 Report post Posted September 27, 2009 Question... Why are you a fan of the red wings? Wouldn't a team like the old anaheim, philadelphia or toronto suit you better? Screenshot taken.

newfy 695 Report post Posted September 27, 2009 Some of you worry about this enforcing bit way too much. Well its the only thing our teams lacks. You're never perfect and thats the one thing we can improve on, so why not add a Brad May type. If you think Boogard doesn't intimidate other teams then you're sorely mistaken. I guess all of us pro-physical hockey advocates just became fans at the wrong time (around 1997). Unlike some of the fans here who have been fans since 2008 and others from the Scandinavian countries who became fans when Detroit picked up so many Swedes after 1997. skyphoenix 153 Report post Posted September 27, 2009 I grew up with the Wings, watched them all the time while I was growing up and went to a ton of games throughout my childhood but I really dont see why some people think an enforcer is something necessary. Fighting is not the most important aspect of hockey, although it is a bonus. However, I dont think its something that needs to be focused on and magnified moreso than skill on the ice. I can understand getting players who can somewhat back up other players who are getting harrassed. I would be more embarrassed losing year after year and getting into 100 fights than making trips to the Stanley Cup Finals year after year while almost never fighting. It's not about being in the most fights though, it's just the concept of sticking up for each other, defending your team mates, leaving the rink with some dignity, you know, the stuff that's made hockey one of the most exciting and respected games in the world. Like I said before, the Wings had a lot going for them after this game. Sure they didn't beat anyone up, but they ended the preseason with a great effort and should take that momentum to the games in Sweden.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 I'm Canadian, and I grew up playing and participating in some of the dirtiest, ugliest hockey you could ever imagine, but I'd call myself a liar if I didn't point out that you whiny sons of ******* are some of the most annoying f***s I have ever had to read drivel from in my entire life. This is our team, take it or leave it. If they're not what you're looking for, then get the f*** out.
Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted September 28, 2009 And I can understand that, but I dont think we are making a mockery of ourselves because we refuse to fight most of the time. It's not even about that. Haven't you seen the interviews with Zetterberg and Datsyuk where they both proclaimed that they personally feel better having someone in the line up looking out for them? May may have only 8 fights all year, if that, it's not about that I reiterate. It's about the presence of keeping the flies off, as Babcock so eloquently puts it. Also, real quick note- Jim Dellevano revolutionized our game for the Red Wings with his dense European scouting, he has been a genius- I admit. However, we mustn't forget our roots in Yzerman, Probert, Gallant line either.
LidsFan 68 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 Even though the game doesn't really mean anything, I am glad that the Wings won, and Howard is starting to make a believer out of me. I love that Rafalski jumped in to help out Franzen, sure he is small but he was there and no one else seemed eager to offer assistance. Just when I thought that I could not like the Pens any less than I do know, they have taken over the the number one spot of the team I hate the most. The Ducks have now dropped down to second on that list.

Wow, you newbies (to hockey, not the board) don't get it, the Lions started the preseason 4-0 last year, you DO realize the significance of preseason, correct? skacore 2 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 And I can understand that, but I dont think we are making a mockery of ourselves because we refuse to fight most of the time. It's not like it's each individual player's fault, going into this game the Wings line up was just so much softer than the Pens that it was obvious something was going to happen. Welcome to the NHL Mattias, hope you don't mind eating fist occasionally, get used to it. It's not always about fighting just standing up for each other, not being pushed around in your own barn, etc., you know, basic hockey stuff. Obviously some people are fed up with it if you look at the neverending debates on this forum and other Red Wings forums, or just take a look at the Joe Louis Arena and it's fans, they certainly don't look entertained. What exactly is it about Jonathan Ericsson that you decided to use a picture of him in your signature? Is it because he's a young stay at home defenseman? Or could it possibly, POSSIBLY have to do with him being a strong, physical player, good defenseman, and will stand up for himself? Do any of those things factor into the equation at all? Detroit is desperate for some sort of toughness... but it's like year after year we just wait... wait... wait... nothing...

The Lions suck. The Wings do not. The Wings had lost five games in a row and looked complacent during those games. Improving and looking like a determined team definitely helps with momentum in the coming season. I have been a fan since 94. You don't know what you are talking about, as per usual. Detroit is desperate for some sort of toughness... but it's like year after year we just wait... wait... wait... nothing... I put Ericsson in my sig because I think hes going to be extremely valuable to us this season defensively and I think he is a strong, physical player that we need in our backend. Hes smart about what hes doing (90% of the time) and doesnt take dumb penalties like a lot of physical players can do. When our PK is as bad as it was last season, penalties are the last thing we need. I do completely understand where the need for an enforcer comes from and I do appreciate having players that can back up our stars but Im not going to complain about it all the time when what were doing currently is winning us games and getting us to the finals. My posts were coming from the stance that Im sick of listening to/reading about people complaining that this team doesnt fight enough.
