MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 what a laugher. . . 1 goal scored on the Zurich team. Watched the last 2 periods. Hawks look slow. The best part was seeing one thing that never changes. . . Kopecky went to make a check and ended up on his ass.
Carman 387 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 Kopecky is just awful. Looked 100x slower on international ice. Really embarrassing for the Hawks. I'm going to wait until the Wing's win convincingly before I make fun of them too long.

I hate the Hawks but when you play internationally and are known as the best league in the world, you better hope to hell you win.
evilmrt 636 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 HAHAHA yeah I watched the 3rd period...the Blackhawks were only missing Hossa and Madden for this game, and didn't look good at all. They actually were frustrated by the Lions outskating them at times. Huet didn't impress, either. I like this new Victoria Cup thing...I didn't think it would be very competitive, but apparently some of these teams can give NHL teams a run for their money. I'm not sure if the pre-season is the right place for it though....it got almost ZERO press. Oh, and did anyone see how embarrassed Daly was when Zurich got the cup? MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 It will be really interesting to hear how NHL Network spins this into a positive for the other "favorite" team of Gary Bettman. Straight up, Hawks were outskated. The way it looked to me is they played as if they thought all they had to do was show up and win the game. Huet wasn't tested much, maybe 17 or 18 shots. Hawks outshot Zurich 2:1. I sure hope this is a preview of Huet and what he's going to bring to Chi-town. Hell, even Crawford got burned last night. The gaping hole in the net might show up early in Chicago this year. Can't dump the guy, he's too expensive. When they passed out the silver medals to the Hawks, they should have had Kane hold out his hand to receive his 20 cents.
Guest Four Report post Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) by cam Braker of Chicago and deliver the Lions one of the biggest wins in their history. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 The Hawks walked onto the ice arrogantly, expecting the win to be handed to them only to end up getting outworked and start taking immature penalties (slashing)? What else is new?

Can't dump the guy, he's too expensive. Shocker! Huet massively disappointed. I can't wait for him to be laughed out of the rink this year and even further eliminate the chance of them getting rid of his overpriced ass. Of course they'd still be stuck with the most overpaid defenseman in the league (a trophy Finger is happy not to have anymore).

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) WAY TO GO SULANDER! swiss_fan 3 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 HAHAHAHA Woohohohohohooh The Hawks spanked by a swiss team! Made my day!!!!! PS: this is one reason why to call the AHL the second best league in the world (even if it isn t of course the swiss league neither) is laughable.. I ve said it in a topic yesterday i think, and then some douchebags told me i m an ignorant and totally dumb..
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 The Blues beat Linkoping 6-0 tonight. No surprise, Linkoping has had a terrible start in the SEL and looks far from being the top team that they've been in recent year.

I really hate bashing goalies (they have the hardest job in all the major sports) unless it involves a Roy, but are you really surprised Hewitt didn't impress you? Mark my words, and re-enforcing the sentiments of the masses, Hewitt won't be able to be a number one goalie that wins a Stanley Cup, let alone the Victoria cup . MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2009 Kind of funny the Blackhawks site is "down" for upgrades on the same day their team dumps to a Swiss hockey team. They should have just left a big picture of Kane chewing on his pacifier with the words "Under Construction" as their sign- in page.

I ve said it in a topic yesterday i think, and then some douchebags told me i m an ignorant and totally dumb.. That is quite the Hasty Generalization. You'll find that nearly 75% of the kids drafted in the NHL are from North America. Of the roughly 25% drafted from Europe, just about 16% hail from the Nordic countries. So we see that the draft makes up about 91% from NA and the Nordic countries. The NHL is easily the best league in the world as of now still since the KHL is taking the scraps of the NHL while only persuading only a very limited handful of potential Slavic/Russian prospects away from the NHL. We're starting to see more and more Scandinavian prospects being drafted with the decline of prospects being churned out of the slavic nations. And it is well documented that more and more Scandinavian prospects are starting to play in the AHL as part of their NA development. Draft breakdowns So to take an A-Typical sample size of one or three games and say that it's laughable that the AHL is a superior product to European leagues doesn't quite make the most sense when about 90% of the drafted NHL talent pool the past few years will be playing in the AHL either now or will be for the next foreseeable future. Plus whoever called you names is someone who can't think of anything better to say and probably doesn't have the intelligence to make a constructive argument. I usually ignore those people as it usually leads to one person or the other ending the argument with a: "Well yah!.....(sticks tongue out)..." lol Edited September 29, 2009 by Konnan511

The Secret 304 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 WAY TO GO SULANDER! (zurich's 40-year old former Finnish national team goalie) The Hawks were beaten by Derek Sulander? ....even more funny. ltgator333 3 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 The Hawks were beaten by Derek Sulander? ....even more funny. Is Kane still hanging his mouth guard out of his big mouth? Or did the Mule put and end to that for good? No it was still hangin out there like a dog's chew toy. Sulander looked really solid to me anyway, seemed like he was one of the differences in the game. The Hawks.. haha.. did look slow/lazy/arrogant and it showed in the final score. Their defense looked lost as usual, but the whole team looked like they didn't have a clue as to how to play on international ice. Think it's a coincidence that this upcoming Olympics will be played on NHL regulation ice size? None at all...
swiss_fan 3 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 Ari Sulander not Derek Sulander, one of the best goalie the swiss championship ever had with Thomas Ostlund (for the swedish;) ) , Martin Gerber David Aebischer and Jonas Hiller, and also now Sebastien Caron (ex Anaheim)

I usually ignore those people as it usually leads to one person or the other ending the argument with a: "Well yah!.....(sticks tongue out)..." lol your argument and theory are interesting , but i m sorry they are a little bit off-topic in my eyes... No doubt that the most part of the draft picks are NA players but what does it have to do with quality of a league? So, you re meaning that a bunch of 18 years old players all for the most part better than an adult professional league such as Finland, Sweden or Switzerland championship? Sorry but i don t buy that..At this point, your argumentation does not prove that the AHL could be better than these leagues. I ll tell you facts now: -The average budget of the swiss clubs are about 7-8 millions. A club like Zurich who has beaten Chicago has about 15-20 mil budget. -The best players of the AHL who are no more prospects and can't make it to the NHL are heading to Europe, reinforcing thus the level of the european leagues and weakenng so the level of the AHL -Even borderline 4th liner/AHL player will head to Europe, cuz they can make here more money than the NHL league minimum -There is a lot more move into the roster of AHL's teams and i do think the strategy, the cohesion of a european team would be better than a AHL team cuz of this stability -The main european championships are adults league; now for a big part of it AHL is a young guns league There is no doubt about that the potential of the AHL players are far more better than the potential of the european leagues. But considering that as soon as this potential shows up, thhe player is moved up in the NHL, i do think the SEL and SM Liga are better championship in the quality of play than the AHL Thanks by any cases for this discussion Konnan. Interesting PS: you were right about my example, totally a generalization, but still i find it illustrative Edited September 30, 2009 by swiss_fan
