Two games, three weeks ago, five years ago, it probably wouldn't have mattered when you made this thread - you were still going to get a bigtime negative response from people - because you are talking about a team has been the most successful hockey franchise the past 15+ seasons in terms of consistency, and much more has to be shown in a bad way by the Wings for your assumption to even remotely become close to a possible reality. Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 Yeah. Again, read the part where I said OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER that this has nothing to do with the past two games. It has to do with what I already stated over and over and over and don't want to keep repeating myself for the sake of the people who dont care to read the whole thread before commenting. What you have done, RyanK, is called backpedalling. As I've said before: you asked yourself a question, then answered it with one word. You did all your explaining in later posts. It doesn't matter when you start a thread like this if you don't explain your point at all. Doom and gloom threads are all too common here at LGW, and some fans get agitated by that and will take the OP to task. This is what happened, then you got all defensive because people couldn't, for reasons you don't seem to understand, glean your thoughts and concerns from the word "No". I can see that you've been run up the flagpole a little bit, but to start a thread like this and not expect it, is the height of naivite. Let the thread carry on without defending yourself so vehemently, admit you weren't as eloquent as you would have liked, and see what other people think about the season. Good luck. TheOwl 77 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 It's a bit worrying Detroit's swedes other then Zetterberg really didn't try or even entertain in front of their home crowd. Detroit will make the play-offs, but you have to question the will to get their. Detroit could be the 7th seed and pull it off, or as the 1st seed. On paper though, their is no way in hell Detroit will pull off a top seed. Osgood is not a regular season goalie, Howard is and will continue to be a disaster. Detroit's D looks pretty bad. 3 goals should be enough to win 75% of the games. And we all know from watching the last season, the Wings will need a lot more then 3 goals every game if Osgood and Howard, don't play well. This regular season will be the worst from Detroit in a decade. Defense is slow, worst goalie pair of any of the 30 teams. Don't get me wrong, Osgood is a great big game goalie. But he is brutal otherwise. Each forward line has an absolutely brutal player, Bertuzzi and Homer could be total wastes of space.
waitahochiminute 2 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 I hate contributing to a horrible thread. BUT!!!! This happens every year in Detroit whether its the pistons or red wings we're 2 games in and people are pooping the bed it's obvious this team isn't going to win 50 games or get back to back pres cups it's obvious that there are better teams in the west and are going to finish ahead of the wings but thinking they wont make the playoffs? you have got to be kidding me... I personally like to follow my teams through the thick and thin

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 5, 2009 I would be shocked if we didn't make the playoffs. The team will struggle, certainly. And yes, it's only 2 games but they're playing just like they did last year, which is why some people are worrying. The team played like these last two games last season and made it to the Finals, so I'm not worried. And those of you predicting some long-term future drop-off in quality, remember the team only looks the way it does this year because of the cap this year. After this year, the team will have money again to fill spots. We're improvising this year. Therefore don't bother predicting some slow decline. If the Wings do poorly this year it's because it's an improvisational, "in between" year, not a harbinger of things to come. And yes, the teams will make some moves this year. I can't remember exactly, but each year the Wings have won the cup since 97 they've made a trade deadline move. This year will be no different. Right off the bat I imagine (based on our previous experience with Howard and the fact that he's only playing because Holland was out of options during the summer) Howard will be moved this year at some point. Lebda as well, not based on the past 2 games but based on his past contributions overall. Also, I'm pretty sure those guys won't get the team anything of value, so someone important (or fairly important) might have to be traded. Also, Leino is showing every indication he can replace Hudler, Bertuzzi can easily replace Sammy, and Williams probably will, too. So we didn't get a third offensive superstar, nobody else does, either. There will be adjustments, no matter what happens. We can only hope that the powers that be see the sense in removing McCrimmon before it's too late.
Tommy_Like_Wingy 25 Report post Posted October 5, 2009 THE BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD IS GOING TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS AGAIN...DON'T WORRY ABOUT THESE 2 LOSES...ITS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON...ITS TRUE THAT WE NEED A GOOD GOALIE...BUT ANYWAY, IT LOOKS LIKE ...OSGOOD, MCDONALD, DRAPER, MALTBY, AND LEBDA ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE ON THIS TEAM...THERE TIME IS LONG GONE... GO RED HOT WINGS !!!!!!!!! The only thing better than reading a post that's in all caps is reading a post in all caps riiddled with grammar mistakes.

cprice12 117 Report post Posted October 5, 2009 Jedi, you cannot be serious as to think that a "discussion" with the assertion that the Wings won't make the playoffs after two games will go on without being completely laughed at. This is just ridiculous. It's game 2. Game 2. Should we start tanking for the top pick now because of TWO GAMES IN SWEDEN!?!? I'm not saying they won't make the playoffs, I'm almost positive they will...and they may win the Central again. However... The West is tough. You guys know this. If Osgood and Howard stink it up, the Wings are going to be up and down this year. They won last year without goaltending, but they've lost some offense this year...it may pan out a little differently this time. And then the question becomes, when do they sign Legace? Or trade for someone else?
Tommy_Like_Wingy 25 Report post Posted October 5, 2009 I think we'll make it to the playoffs but it's going to be very frustrating if we have to rely on hoping Osgood/Howard will hit a hot streak just to get by. Honestly though, our guys have to have their confidence shaken a little and I really can't think of a worse team to play next than Chicago. We usually have their number but they're better offensively than the Blues and we have no idea what our goaltending is going to look like.

But it's not worthy to get a 7th/8th seed and lose 4-2 in the first round and an early exist, conference final is the minimum imo, DRW is not like any other team. This is an example of spoiled wings fans. For all the success our team has had, the occasional crap situations like you have described above are bound to happen once in a while. Just remember, there are fans out there that love a bottom seed and lose in the first round because it's better than what they've been getting. wings are going to try for 0-82 cause they see the dumb blind support detroit has for teams that can't win a game! I'd cry burn but I assume your talking about the other big-cat named team in Detroit that defines awful. I'm surprised they're still worthy of making jokes about, but then again I wouldn't know for about the 6 or 7th season in a row with no regrets... wtf couple bad games and we are not going to make the playoffs??? you do know how many games we play right?
