I know it's EARLY and not the PLAYOFFS, but come on...

I really wanted Anderson this summer... I think that Osgood can still be SOLID but he needs someone like Hasek (Conklin did great job last season) to push him... some kind of healthy competition - motivation...

I agree, this would be the only trade I could see happening: getting a solid backup. But it's still young in the season and Howard still has time to prove that he's capable.

What exactly needs to be explained? Or are you just being a smartass?

No I was being serious. But I thought you were saying Lilja's $$ counts against the cap, when in actuality it's not (in the sense that we can spend Lilja's $$ on a replacement for him).

.... I think we can all agree though. That having Hossa ruined the teams dynamics.. the teams chemisty. He played a very selfish game. Which is the reason why he isn't a super star the way Crosby and Datsyuk are. ...

I wouldn't agree with any of that...

No. It counts against the cap. It allows you to spend over the cap limit but it still counts against the cap. The reason it's important not to look at it the way you do, is because having his payroll on the roster doesn't allow the team to accrue the same amount of cap space for the deadline that it would if he was off it.

I might sound like I'm splitting hairs but it's really not and I hope I explained well enough the reason why.

I'm glad you're saying it though, because the way I've read it before I was under the impression that it did accrue cap space, which clearly it doesn't. It seems like I'm not the only one who was mixed up on that, so it's definitely a point that's worth repeating.

The one change O am hoping for soon is the release of Brad McCrimmon....

I still think Mike Peca can help shore up the defensive side of the puck. He is without a job and would surely sign for $500,000....

I wanted Peca in the summer too, but the fact that he's got no takers right now speaks volumes for where his career is. The first point of comparison I can think for why that might not be a fair assessment would be Shanny last year, but it's worth noting that he wasn't willing to move far outside the NY area. In this case it seems that the entire NHL has spurned Peca's agent's advances... so really, doesn't that say something?

As far as a previous poster said about having young guys who can kill penalties goes... well I agree that we have some young 3rd/4th line guys who need a shot soon, we've already got 4 permanent rookies on the roster PLUS Abdelkader. 5 rookies on a 23 man Red Wings roster is unprecedented as it is, I can't imagine Holland will push it farther. We're not in rebuilding mode.

On a brighter note Tatar got his first AHL game in last night. He's officially the youngest player in the AHL and managed to put up an assist and be a +1 in his first game, a 7-2 loss to San Antonio's "Coyote high draft pick bonanza" team.

Haha. I'll play the politician here and pretend I thought you were asking if we could get a replacement for Franzen at the deadline if he were going to stay out until the playoffs. :sly:

There's no cap in the playoffs (which is why the Pens could bring their previously waived s***burger up from the AHL that they'd already replaced). So let's plan for that. Hold Franzen back until the playoffs and pray he instantly returns for form (also give him the max time in the minors for reconditioning). Now use that money to get a 4 million dollar pro-rated replacement at the deadline and we're good to go. So yeah, maybe we can have Kovy if we're going to sell the farm.

:D

Frolov benched tonight for one turnover in a previous game. Hes currently a regular as a third line checker. I expect holland to make a move for this guy and i expect kings to bite.

YES PLEASE. Frolov just oozes talent. I'd kill to have that kid here. Maybe he has an attitude problem, maybe his club is just horribly managed.

I do know that we've played nice and been trading partners with the Kings recently in the Stuart trade, so it's not impossible. Oh, and it helps that the Kings have a history of losing great players for almost nothing :)

Murray has had him on the third line the whole year playing with two checkers. But yeah the guy has no attitude problem hes just being coached wrong ..Your number one goal scorer shouldnt be expected to be a checker.

I say give him the ice time, and give him pavel and were money.

lol.

While I would LOVE this, the Kings are playing great right now and I just don't see them moving any players. Although, if we're talking around the trade deadline, well anything is possible!!

If you check your calendar, you'll note that the trade deadline is roughly some 150 days from now.

Really? If that's true, he should be in the OHL. Playing once (and likely limited minutes) every 5 games is brutal for his development.

See, you've gotta have more faith in their ability to plummet back down to Earth and explode on impact. I mean it is the Kings. :hehe:

This.

Franzen is not coming back in four months, and even if he does the Wings will probably try to use that LTIR as long as possible until Franzen is 100%. They aren't going to bring him in if he can't provide his entire salary's worth of a roster spot.

Also there is no way Detroit is getting Kovalchuck. Holland isn't stupid.

ive probably seen the kings play with frolov 5 times total but, he does interest me.

but would he be a lazy player and only offensive minded or will he be forced to learn a two-way role also?

his numbers look great for a secondary player.maybe to fill in the void of Hudler?

The last I heard he is going to go back to the OHL, but the Wings' brass wanted him to see how hard their players train during the season so he can see what he needs to do and get their work ethic.
