SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted October 26, 2009 Either you have really really good vision, or really really bad vision! Not all HD TV's do Standard Def equally, many show standard def far, far worse than a standard def tv... I don't have a HD TV. It'd definitely nice, but I get along fine without it. It's a luxury for me, not an absolute necessity.
Grim 5 Report post Posted October 26, 2009 I've had the equivalent of CI here in Canada for the past two years. I think I will take a pass on this season. Center Ice is totally useless for the Playoffs.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted October 26, 2009 (edited) Being near detroit, I passed on the year long and put that money towards my HD/DVR with comcast... love it! Sucks when my fiancee can't figure out how to find the HD stations and I walk in and see the standard def on the tv... I immediately flip it over. Comcast has almost every station in HD... amazing! creedie 2 Report post Posted October 26, 2009 I've decided to go for it! I just switched to Dish and it is great - you get to choose if you want the home feed and more often than not they seem to be in HD.
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted October 26, 2009 I loved my Centre Ice Free Preview, watched hockey every night from first game to last game.... Was awesome to be able to switch over to games that were close or nearing or in OT or shootout, etc... That said I'd never pay $200 a year for it, I don't have HD and I get probably 6 games a week on regular programming with TSN/TSN2/CBC/Sportsnet/NHL-N.... As long as free online streams are accessible they'll do for any other games of interest.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 It's a luxury for me, not an absolute necessity. Listening to some of the people in this thread talk, you're one step removed from eating your own poop and killing animals with sticks in your backyard for food. Good grief, it's high-def vs. standard def, not living in a house vs. living in a cardboard box.
FedorovGurl 2 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 I purchase Center Ice every year and to me its totally worth the price. I am not just a Wings fan but a hockey fan and the fact that I can watch so many games is so great. I totally get my moneys worth.
newfy 695 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 Being a hockey fan I think the program is well worth it. Sitting home bored at night even if teh wings aren't playing you can always turn on some team you would never get the chance to watch like Anaheim or LA. Living in Canada I also hate the extremely low amount of wings games I get to watch eyarly.
Wingers17 8 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 One thing that sucks about Center Ice here in Utah, is the fact that the Coyotes and Availanche are Blacked out here because they feel we are local viewing area here. Phoenix and Denver are over 600 miles away from where i am and there is no way in heck I am going to drive to see either of them. Too far to go, unless I take Vacation. Gotta work! thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 (edited) I was one of those lame-o's who got Center Ice for free when bitching at DirecTV. No ponying up anything this season. This. And the $150 I saved will make paying $20 for a month of regular cable quite easy. If DirecTV doesn't carry Vs again. Wing-in-avs-town 123 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Didn't we get most, if not all the games last season in HD? and most of the games during the free preview was HD, but now, none of the games have been in HD yet. What gives??? just called Direct TV and they said they should have the HD feeds by mid November. I'm confused, is the HD problem tied in to the whole VS mess?? What gives??? just called Direct TV and they said they should have the HD feeds by mid November. I'm confused, is the HD problem tied in to the whole VS mess?? every wings game that center ice has had the ability to broadcast i have been able to watch in HD. they always have the fsnd feed in standard and high def. as i mentioned in a previous post, i never seem to have any canadian feeds in HD, so last night the vancouver feed was standard def only. but anyway, most games for me have had a high def option. the other day i stated 50%, but i think its probably much higher. Hocketownwest 11 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 NHL network has the HD feed of the Wings Canucks game today at 2:00, yet its still blacked out even though its a rebroadcast. I assume even if I get center ice it would still be blacked out because FSD is broadcasting their rebroadcast, what a joke. I guess its not fair to Sam Bernstein if I watch the Wings on another feed. Ridiculous. I swear it was not like this 2 years ago, I could watch the Wings on either the FSD and or VS & HDnet feeds when they had Thursday and Saturday games. Now the HD net games are gone and it seems like VS doesn't get many games anymore. I guess its all an attempt to make you fork over $160-200 to watch other teams play in SD. Maybe if I call someone in India can explain it to me

Stiffy 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 I am not an expert in this, but which online video services offer a good deal and even HD? Can anyone post?
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 You should make this into a poll... My answer: NO. While I can afford it at this stage of my life, it is still not worth the money since I really only want to watch the Wings games, not all the other games. What I usually do is see how I feel in mid-January when they offer half price - if the Wings are in the mix then I buy it. For now, I stick to football season and stream Wings games somex...... zettie85 106 Report post Posted November 5, 2009 Wondering if anyone knows about this or how it works. It says on Shaw.ca that if you signed up for Centre Ice you get all access to NHL game centre live on NHL.com.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Still not going to pony up $150+ dollars to do Center Ice itself, but I might do a subscription to NHL Gamecenter or hockeystreams.com. I paid for a 1-day subscription to hockeystreams using HD premium (highest of 2 selections available) to watch last nights game online, and it was pretty solid for watching on a CPU monitor. Puck was difficult to track sometimes (to be expected) but game flow was very, very smooth - better than any online streams I've found without cost. I might try to hold out a bit longer though with free streams if they are availalbe and possibly only pay for 1/2 a season roughly if I do buy, because it obviously gets cheaper as the season goes along either on hockeystreams or NHL Gamecenter.
