great win. some more toe stoppers by Howard... im liking him more and more.

good win after being down 2-0 very early.

keep it up boys.

anyone got video of the first Pavel goal? what a thing of beauty

yea. and to think many on here were wanting him to retire. he's actually been one of our better players this season so far.

Homer has been an extremely pleasant suprise thusfar. I was quietly thinking that his time had come, but he's proving us all wrong.

You going to the game? I ended up picking up a nosebleed seat at the last minute

My buddy is going to Edmonton and here. I doubt I'll be going. If I get a cheap ticket I would but I'll prolly have to wait for the next Western trip.

Mike Babcock post-game: "You just keep banging your head against the wall, and eventually it's going to go through."

Apparently, he's heard me taking my frustration out on my wall.

Ow. My forehead hurts, and now I've got to patch my damn wall! :P

And more good news (didn't think I'd be saying this), Howie starts in Edmonton.

Edit: P. Marlowe, you beat me to it!

You think Miller/Anderson is better than any combination of Luongo/Brodeur/Ward? Even the Lundqvist/Gustavsson combo doesn't stand up against Canada's goaltending. The monster is completely unproven at the NHL level.

I was semi-kidding about the Lundqvist/Gustavsson combo, just because of the fact that Gustavsson is being so incredibly hyped right now (but seriously, did you see that save on Christensen's shot?SIIIICK). I would however take Lundqvist over Luongo any day of the week. I don't have confidence in Luo's ability to perform in big games. And Brodeur is still really good, but I think he might have his best days behind him. He hasn't exactly been money in his last few playoff appearances. Canada obviously has great goaltending, but at the moment I would take Miller or Lundqvist if I had to select one goalie for an Olympic team.

Babcock said in the post-game interview that Howard's starting in Edmonton

That's good news. Hopefully Jimmy will get in the groove, and Ozzy will do whatever the hell it is he needs to do to learn to play goal again. I don't get how he can be so good in the playoffs, but pretty awful the regular season before it and after it.

Wow, what a game. I thought the Wings responded well after the first goal and responded even better after the 2nd. All-in-all, the Wings came to win tonight. Few guys are still rusty i.e. Lidstrom, Ralfi and Cleary were unimpressive to say the least. Leino had a quiet game and Zetterberg seemed below-mediocre defensivly and made horrible decisions with the puck a few times that could have turned ugly. Lidstrom made an ugly giveaway that was totally not the Norris-Nick we all know. I expect the veterans to come on as the season progresses.

Williams scored and Samuelsson didn't that's great news! :)

Bert is quickly becoming one of my favorites. He's on fire and I have a strong feeling that once he buries a couple, he's going to be unstoppable.

Howard is consistently making the nay-sayers on LGW's look like complete and udder idiots :D

Datsyuk is back to his old form! Rock on!

"If you keep banging your head on the wall eventually it will go through"

-- Mike Babcock

Hmm... I think this a good quote, but I wonder if he's ever seen a brick wall... or a door.

He's right either way-- the "it" could be the head or the wall. Either way one is going to go through the other.

How about this, you can also be called wrong. All the other stuff you mentioned in your post beyond the call I could care less about and it's not worth my time. Have fun with the dramatics. As for the relevant part:

dsc00774w.jpg

^-- This is an elbow to Shirokov's head, driving it into the boards. Also known as elbowing or boarding, which is a penalty. This followed a slash which could have also been called, so if the ref wanted to be a dick he could have called Stu twice.

Hard to tell the perspective from that photo-- the elbow doesn't have to be in contact with the head based on that photo. It's kind of like trying to analyze the Zapruder film, though.

Leino was dangerous at times, but not as dangerous as he was on Filppula's wing.

How's this look:

Bertuzzi-Filppula-Leino

Gives you a distributor/playmaker, a crasher/shooter and a shooter/playmaker. Cleary looked off tonight, as others said and to be honest he's scored 20+20 a few times as a 3rd line guy anyway, so it's not like he won't be useful on the 3rd.

I'm just putting this out there, Bertuzzi is quickly becoming one of my favourite players.

And I think Abdelkader would be better served getting more ice-time in Grand Rapids and being their go-to guy.

Agreed. He's not playing enough minutes up here or any really significant minutes (last mins in a one goal lead, ties, critical PKs, etc). Put him in GR and let him play 20+ mins for at least a few more months. Save Abs for call-ups.

It's not like he can't afford to wait another season to be a full time guy!

Well, I did have the advantage of seeing it repeatedly thanks to DVR, and hell, when I made the post that harold decided to argue, it was with only seeing the initial hit and the live replay shown by the Canucks broadcast. Stu's elbows come up too high and are the first thing that hits Shirokov, as that picture is taken right as he's doing the hit. Shirokov's back was turned the entire time, and Stu had him contained by cutting him off, so it was iterated that Stu needed not follow through, which was absolutely correct. And even then, again, it was following a slash, so it was evident Stu was playing far too recklessly and carelessly on that shift, so had no reason to get upset following being called -- and it was the right call, and almost cost the Wings. Hopefully he thinks twice about doing that next time.

Just wanted to emphasize the fact that Filppulla was our best offensive contributor tonight, despite being limited to a single assist. He had 4 absolutely gorgeous tape-to-tape passes that resulted in golden scoring opportunities.

Great to see ZDH have a strong game and I think Jimmy has earned the right to start in both Edmonton and Calgary (I'll be at the game!)

I'm really glad Pav got a couple tonight.

It looks like the Giant is finally awake.

Besides that, I think we can agree that tonight's win was a sigh of relief to both player and fan alike.

Jimmy Howard is owed a beer..Or several.

Whatever he intended to do, you're right that it was reckless and nearly bit us in the ass. I'm just glad we're on a winning streak again!

Not even close. Datsyuk tied the game THEN he put us ahead. I don't care how many good passes Fil made-- Datsyuk tied it with one goal then followed that up with another marker that put the team ahead.

Plus, if we just count pretty passes Datsyuk's worst game is still better than Filppula's best. Why? Datsyuk is one of the best passers in the league who has only a handful of peers. It's not even fair to Fil to compare the two.

First off great win by the wings! They never gave up! I was laughing so hard when Babcock pulled Ozzie he looked upset lol and basically demanded Howard get in there. I thought Ozzie was gonna cry but lets hope he regains his game. Howard was fun to watch tonight and was very entertaining! I hope he can play like that and also keep the puck out of the net on a consistent basis.

Go Wings Go!! :siren:

Let us not underestimate the power of Homer tonight. Scored a HUGE goal, screened the goalie on Pav's second one and Kronwall's goals, and probably was responsible for getting Roberto off his game and give up 5.

Good point, APunk. I've always said he plays best when he's knocking on the goalie's door, like Scotty Bowman told him to do. Not only does it give the goalies fits, but it also creates a lot of space for D and Z to work their magic.

Solid effort by Datsyuk, now he needs to get on pace for over 100 points with hsi first two goals off his back.

Great passing from Filp, he really needs a finisher on his line..
