stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Sorry about being rash about Kindl. I guess I'm in the same boat about Kindl's performance as you are. Been waiting for him to break through for awhile now... all your points were spot on though... he's not ready yet, he needs to get better defensively - my guess is that neither Meech nor Lebda will be here next year and we will roll with Kindl from day 1, with a defensive D man as our
Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Too bad we still don't have Cheli, he would be perfect at this moment in time.

zettie85 106 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Our D for tonight is horrendous! All you religious types please start praying for tonight. Our D isn't that bad. Rafalski is out. That's a plus defensively. We played good D in Calgary and had Meech in. He sucks but prolly won't see the ice alot.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Boston is pretty weak offensively with Savard, Kessel, and Lucic not playing. I thought the Wings had an advantage going into Edmonton. Not so much.
Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted November 4, 2009 didn't notice janik much during the game maybe that's a good thing
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 janik looked good tonight, strong on the boards, moving guys from the front of the net played within his means and didn't tr to do to much. Good to know there is a guy like him in GR that can come up and play when needed.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) He was good, very good given the circumstances. I certainly didn't miss Rafalski and his turnovers. Maybe one of these days Kindl will make his long awaited debut though. Edited November 4, 2009 by Aussie_Wing
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) No reason to be a ****** to people. Are you mad? Funny thought though... I thought Janik looked really good tonight. He's just the kind of defenseman the Wings need right now. A no nonsense stay at home defender. Edited November 4, 2009 by Broken
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Anyone who has been keeping up with the Griffins this season can read anywhere that Janik has been the best defenseman in Grand Rapids. Detroit has been a team that will call up the player who is playing the best in the AHL for a long time. That being said there was no doubt they would have called Janik up. I wanted to see Kindl to see what he could do, but was happy with Janik as well. Janik has played in the NHL at times before. I was also very impressed with Janik's play. He looked solid back there last night. As Did Meech. Both were pleasent surprises.

Which should not be the case for a guy that NEEDS to make the team next year.

Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted November 4, 2009 QFT. Who thinks he can continue to play like he did last night? Because Janik last night > Lebda/Meech imo. This. Completely agree, Janik was solid- he's definitely a simple stay at home. That being said, he also has a tough side and a mean streak which Meech and Lebda can't provide. servo 15 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Janik looked very solid last night. The only thing that we missed was that 1st pass out of the zone. I thought that Lebda played one of his better games, but Meetch was non exhistent out there. I wish we would have kept Quincy over Meetch *SIGH*
RusDRW 155 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Reading your comments related to Janik's play do you guys think he could become Lilja-like for our team? I mean reliable stay-at-home playing tough sometimes. I personally see some potential if he is paired with someone having a good outlet passing game e.g. Kronwall. I should say though yesterday was probably Lebdas best game of the last 2 seasons.

I should say though yesterday was probably Lebdas best game of the last 2 seasons. I'd say Janik looked very solid out there - he should be given at least 3 to 5 games and then re-evaluate our situation - keep in mind, he would have to clear waivers to go back down, so once everyone is healthy, something has to give... if we can't trade Meech or Lebda, I would rather one of them waived than Janik at this point - and that isn't going off of 1 game with us - that's going off of his 161 other NHL games and solid defensive play through his career, plus his added physical element of the game... swedishconnection 36 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 I think we all need to take a step back and remember that this was one game. I really liked Janik too. He was exactly what I wanted to see out there. No dumb plays, simple passes, never turned down an opportunity to hit. I would definetly want to see him play some more. I really appreciated the fact that he did not chip it up the boards either. He played in our system and made the pass. Only 2 complaints - 1st off, number 37? seriously? Man it made me wonder for a minute. Secondly, and completely unrelated, WHY WILL BERT NOT FINISH ANY HIT EVER?

I don't know about you but 19 million would be enough for me to think twice about dropping the hammer on someone. Janik looked decent, didn't make any big plays just went out and did his job. It would be nice to see him a little bit more this year as Kindl is still a ways away from the NHL.
