edicius 3,269 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/33700259/ns/sports/ This looks embarrassing for them. I'd blame it on Burke, but the Raptors appear to be guilty of jumping the line for the H1N1 vaccine as well.
Guest Four Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Flames got theirs too. I see no problem with it, maybe if they didn't make it such a scare this wouldn't have happened.
Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted November 6, 2009 People working with the public should get the vaccine. Hockey players talk, shake hands, chat, exchange autographed material, etc. I personally dont give a s***, i'm not getting the vaccine but the whole league should be vaccinated due to their contact with fans and whoever else. Leafs r sux btw, just thought I'd throw that in there.

Esquire 324 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Personally, I'm glad the Leafs got the vaccine. A few people in my office had lunch at a burger place in the city today where Kaberle and Mayers were also eating. Pheww!
Redline 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Entitlement. Athletes, well in the Leafs case the word is used loosely, they are so much more deserving then say, normal humans.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 The Flames thing has been a huge deal here in Alberta. There has been a ton of demand for the vaccine (obviously) and the whole Flames organization ALONG with their families were permitted to go to a private clinic and get vaccinated while people in high risk groups were left waiting in line for 4 - 6 hour lines, many of whom didn't receive a shot after all due to the shortage. That seems fair to you guys?

Leafs r sux btw, just thought I'd throw that in there. Here's the thing.... Hockey players aren't going to die from it if they get sick. The elderly and children, who were leap frogged by the Raptors and Flames, are considerably likelier to succumb to the flu. By getting the vaccination early, the teams are ostensibly doing so to ensure that guys don't have to miss games, because the long-term ramifications of the illness are basically non-existent for someone who is healthy. It was a selfish decision.
shoe 165 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 15000 - 20 000 people in a full building watching these guys, skate around sweating out their flu germs into the air. Just takes one ass in the crowd to get sick after going to the game and suing the team. I see no reason why they shouldnt get a shot. All the travelling from city to city they do a lot of potential germ spreading achooooooooooooooo

You think people have ground to sue an NHL team for going to see them and potentially catching a virus from a player on the ice? Yeah..that would stand up
Barrie 900 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Athletes are considered "high risk" since they travel so much and have contact with so many different people. The general public should just "chill out" because this has nothing to do with celebrities jumping the line.
Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 I have a daughter with severe asthma, and I'm a service tech for the phone company, going to 8-10 houses a day. I think my daughter needs it before that turd-burglar Iginla. Maybe I'm biassed, maybe not. It just doesn't seem right.

That seems fair to you guys? Are you telling me that no Government workers or officials have yet to get vaccinated. I'm sure the Government was the first to ge them before anyone. I wouldn't believe them anyways if they came out and say they didn't. Pointing the finger at athletes and there families is a good way of deflecting it away from themselves. I'm not saying it's right but I'm sure they aren't the first to get special treatment. Edited November 6, 2009 by zettie85

The general public should just "chill out" because this has nothing to do with celebrities jumping the line. Athletes are considered "low risk" because they are in peak physical condition and their systems can handle H1N1 much better than the general population that they cut in front of. Athletes should just "chill out" because they really have a lot less to lose than Grandma Smith who was waiting in line all day and still didn't get her vaccine. Pointing the finger at athletes and there families is a good way of deflecting it away from themselves. I'm not saying it's right but I think but I'm sure they aren't the first to get special treatment. My Member of Parliament has come out and said that he will not get the vaccine until it is his turn. He won't line jump, just because the opportunity is there (or something to that effect). I've met the guy, and I like him, and I believe him. But his statement leads me to believe that you are right. Some government officials have likely received the vaccine, and it was likely offered to him.

I work for the Government and I can say at least in our little sliver of it, only the Health Department and those departments directly involved with the vaccination clinics, police, fire and volunteers, are able to get the vaccination. They are very strict because of the shortages. This has upset elected officials greatly.
