This guy has really been hungry lately, which is definitely a good sign for us fans, but I feel like he is focusing too hard on scoring the goal that he is losing sight of the rest of the ice. He had a great deal of scoring chances tonight (as well as a couple nights ago) but in the midst of the majority of those opportunities I also recall noticing a defensman or a Winger that was wide open and Bert opted to drive the net through a well protected area or go for a bad angle shot.

I'm not necessarily complaining (maybe I am) but I do hope to see him get a little more patient with the puck in the next week or so. If he can do that I think he'll end up being more productive in the long run.

compared to what we thought Patrick Eaves was gonna be (4th line fodder, lazy ass), he's been doing well.

Darren Helm FRIGHTENS opposing teams. Case in point- tonight vs Sharks, giving him tons of room to operate.

I agree completely about Bert being hungry. You can see it in his play. I think it's great that he's trying to produce but shooting right at a goalie's chest doesn't help a whole lot. Pass it once in a while or the defender's aren't going to expect him to pass and will wait for the shot to come.

I also like the way Eaves is playing. But Helm! Holy s***! I'm calling for Helm to be elected, nay, appointed, Ruler Of The Universe. His play tonight was unbelievable.

Bert is playing exactly like I figured he would when we first signed him and everyone was all butthurt, glad to see him thriving, soon enough goals will come. I can see Babcock keeping him on the top 2 lines for the time being with Flip and Johan out for an extended period of time, I think the role will work well for him.

Defensemen are afraid to make a quick move on him because he's such a good skater he can walk right around them.

If that kid had hands he'd be a superstar.

Give him time. He's got pretty much everything BUT hands at the tender age of 22. The more time he gets, the more he'll develop.

Bert was in all the right places tonight... and did some good (and very bad) passing... However, whenever he had the chance of being productive tonight he found a way to screw up, and usually big.

Edit: this comment is entirely about tonight's performance.

Bert has been far better than I could have hoped for $1.5M, he's just snakebit right now. As for shooting from bad angles etc, he's only doing the thing that will get him in Babcocks good books quickest and easiest - shoot early, shoot often.

Maybe I'm reaching too deep, but does anything else think Bertuzzi's been trying the blind backhand pass in the own zone a bit too much?

Outside of that, for the mots part he's going to the net more often than not, just can't buy a goal to save his life kinda like his 1st brief stint here.

As far as it looks right now, doesn't look like he's being hindured by naggging injuries/back etc. which is good.

Bertuzzi was really poor to start the season, which should be expected (but I'm not a Bert fan so I gotsta hate :P). The last few games he was really good save a few terrible giveaways. Last night, Bert was absolutely flying, dominating a shift or two. I agree with Rivalred: once they start going in, the lines will really be clicking.

Great to see the team as a whole playing well, Osgood especially. Anyways, keep it up Bert. Go Wings.

Yes. I think he isn't used to his teammates/linemates enough to keep pulling that, turnovers abound. But I don't think I saw any of them last night, which is probably a big factor as to why he looked so good out there. Nice hustle offensively without the mental lapses.

I've been noticing that too

I didn't (and still don't) really like the Bert signing. I just don't think the team needs an injury-prone, mid-30s player who's lost most of his goal scoring ability. But I do like the effort he's been putting in, at both ends of the ice too. For the price, I don't mind the occasional mistakes that much.
