WMUCarGuy 8 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 I touched on this before in another thread, but I think I've decided on getting a Zetterberg jersey. It comes with an Assistant Captain's "A". We're all suspecting he'll be the next captain, which could happen as early as next year. If I wanted to change the "A" on my jersey to a "C", would there be a ton of visible little holes where the A was stitched in, or are the jersey's pretty good at not showing holes like that? I can get the Z jersey with or without an A, and if/once he becomes captain, I'd want to switch it over to a C, so I'm trying to figure out whether I should just order it without the A or not. Any people with Lidstrom jerseys who've done this?
Taylorov 37 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 (edited) Probably. In addition to being sewn they are also glued. Edited November 29, 2009 by Taylorov
WMUCarGuy 8 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 Probably. In addition to being sewn they are also glued. I should probably go no A then. That way I can go either way when Lidstrom retires. If Z becomes captain, which is I'd guess almost certain, I can add the C, if not, I can add the A.

Kronner55 1 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 I have removed "Hatcher" & his 2's from 3 jersies & replaced them with Helm, Ericsson & Leino just recently. This is easy & it does NOT leave any marks. Here is how: CAREFULLY remove stitching. Very gently removed the letters &/or numbers by peeling up an edge & slowly separating them from the jersey. Use "Goof-off" (can be bought at Home Depot) and a toothbrush over all areas where the numbers & letters were on the jersey. Just use a circulating motion (put the goof-off directly on the jersey, not the brush). Run the jersey through the washer & hang dry. Set an iron to highest heat & then iron it thru a thin towel. Do not stay in one place too long as you don't want to melt it. After this, there is no residue & no mark left on the jersey.
WMUCarGuy 8 Report post Posted November 29, 2009 If I were to get a Z jersey with no A on it and add the C later, where's a good place to have it added so it looks absolutely authentic?

Look, if you're not going to get a jersey that the player could wear in the game, who cares? If you are, then go to icejerseys.com and fork out the 200 bones you need to get an authentic Filppula jersey. That's a sweet jersey that barely anyone has. Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted November 30, 2009 I would say keep it with the A... When he's a captain, it's a throwback and shows you've been watching a while.

The best place for customization (both price and quality) is sportsk.com. By far the best site I've used.

I would assume that SportsK can do it. I'd email them to ask before buying though. Adding stuff afterwards isn't a big deal for them, though it takes a LONG time. (~2 weeks to ship to them via UPS, 3-4 weeks customization, ~2 weeks back) If you're looking for decent places around Detroit that you can physically go to, there's a place called the Pointe After in Grosse Pointe (corner of Mack and Moross). They do some great customization work, from what I've seen, but are probably a little more pricey than Sportsk. Edited November 30, 2009 by Theophany

So far the best options sound like "buy one without and add later" and "buy one with an A and keep it as a throwback". But that's just me because I'm lazy. Good info to know, though.
