toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Looks pretty cheap, but they will be paying him that much until he's 40, so I think that factors into why the per year amount is slightly lower than what you'd think he's currently worth.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Really, really great deal right now, but will probably look like less of a steal in a couple of years.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 they will prob snag someone via the Leafs Well..they aren't getting Kessel back. Other than that, they'd have a hard time finding a goal scorer.

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Well..they aren't getting Kessel back. Other than that, they'd have a hard time finding a goal scorer. Isn't that what they brought Ryder in for? 27 goals last year wasn't half bad, and don't forget 2 consecutive years of 30 with the Habs.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Kudos on spelling the word 're-sign', rather than the popular and incorrect alternative which I often see as 'resign'.

Opie 308 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 While a necessary and good signing for the B's I would not say that it was a cheap one, as mentioned above, he will be 40 when the contract expires and he is under 35 right now, so they eat all of it. If he retires in year 4 it is 4.2 for the next 3. Or if he slows down considerably, he is a high priced Vet that will be hard to get rid of in the cap era. Unless Nashville is looking to make the floor. But the second best set up man in the league next to Datsyuk, and I didn't see that until he moved to Boston, the B's fans love him. He plays with a fire, they like that in their players. They loved PJ Stock to no end, the reason Lucic and Savard are so loved here is that they will make a beauty offensive play on one end and absolutely take some one out on the other end. Although not often Savard will be dirty and cheap, Gordie Howe dirty and cheap, not Pronger! The next home game he will get a huge ovation for this contract! I still wonder what Atlanta was thinking splitting him and Kovie up!(they let him go rather via FA)
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Holy s***! That's a Jeff Finger contract there.

If he retires in year 4 it is 4.2 for the next 3. I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. If I'm not mistaken, because he's under 35, if he retires, his cap hit goes away. If he retires at any point the B's are free from his contract.
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Per TSN text message. Seven years, $4.2 million per year. leaves room for the B's to sign both their first round picks after the draft and put them both on his wing. they can duke it out for the calder good thing for kessel he's playing really good or leafs fans would be s***ting even more bricks than they are already. hope he doesn't hit a slump... I agree. This is a great deal for Savard and a steal for the Bruins until later in the contract when Savard's production takes a dip and they are still paying him 4.2 million. I don't understand why teams are opting for these extensive contracts.

This is a great deal for Savard and a steal for the Bruins until later in the contract when Savard's production takes a dip and they are still paying him 4.2 million. I don't understand why teams are opting for these extensive contracts. Because they expect the cap to increase in time. Higher cap=Less of a hit the contract will give the team
Datsasuk 2 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Because they expect the cap to increase in time. Higher cap=Less of a hit the contract will give the team But he'll still be overpaid. Higher cap also = higher salaries for other Free agents and possibly an increase in rookie max contracts and league minimums among other things.
