Lebda and Meech

Meech hasn't been that bad to me, but that's beside the point since I'm probably in the minority thinking that. Lebda, the opposite...

That being said, if the Wings were healthy, sure I'd be more willign to part ways with them. But the Wings aren't healthy, and Lebda and Meech are better than minor leaguers or no depth at all.

I can't belive Lebda is still on the team. He sucks so much it's not even funny anymore. He is barely an AHL player by now. Meech sucks too, though probably a little less than Lebda (that's no feat though). Kindl is clearly better than both.

If he were truly better than both, do you really think that with the best GM in all of hockey and the best coach in all of hockey, that Lebda would still be on this team?

If Kindl were truly better than both, would he still have been sitting in GR for the past month?

The obvious answer is that you're wrong. You don't have the knowledge that Ken Holland and Mike Babcock have, and as they've been mildly more successful in hockey, I'm going to trust them to do the best with what they have.

It really bothers me that some people don't seem to realize this stuff; Mike Babcock and Ken Holland get paid to do this. They put tons of time into putting forth the best team that they can. Do you really think that if Kindl was the amazing savior of our defensive efforts, that he'd be sitting in GR?

I need an effing facepalm smilie.

Well, they keep Kindl in GR because he gets more minutes on the ice. And yeah he is better than Lebda or Meech at the moment, I do not see how this is even dabatable. Kindl is showing at worst top4 potential. Lebda and Meech are both very bad no.6 defensemen.

As for Babcock, he gets paid for his job, so what? Doesn't mean he's perfect.

They keep Kindl in GR because he still needs experience before they can bring him up to play third pair minutes.

Did you notice what the pairs were tonight?

Lids/E

Lebda/Stuart

Meech/Kindl

That's Kindl as the 6th defenseman.

That you think you know more about the team than Ken Holland and Mike Babcock (or even Steve Yzerman) is a complete joke. You might be even dumber than Jake Ryan if you believe that. Both of them have lived and breathed hockey for longer than you've probably been alive. Both of them have been incredibly successful. How you can doubt their professional opinions and go with your own biased and uninformed opinion is beyond me.

If Meech and Lebda were as bad as you're making them out to be, we'd have Janik and Kindl up and playing in the 5/6 spots; both were on the roster in the preseason.

God, man you are just stupid.

I never said I think I know more than Holland or whoever else, so shut the f*** up and do not put YOUR words into my mouth.

You are completly missing my point and I do not care anymore.

I want Janik. He's an older veteran guy with smart defence and grit. Something we have not alot of on the backend.

Agreed completely. If Lilja doesn't come back this season, the Red Wings need to a find a big physical d-man that can clear the front of the net and kill penalties. Rafalski, Lebda, and Meech get manhandled physically.

I think some of you people are overreacting, but Meech was TERRIBLE last night. I was at the game, and since the whole thing was a gong show, I just focused on how terrible Meech was playing. He just got tossed around, turned the puck over, fumbled the puck at the blue line and took terrible shots. I thought Kindl played pretty well, made a great defensive play and had a great scoring chance. He was a -2 on the night, but from what I witnessed he played pretty mistake-free.

Meech and Lebda could fuse together into one player by combining all their strenghts, and they would still SUCK!

At this point with the injuries, we can't do much about these two rejects, but they're complete wastes of space. I'd rather have Draper playing back there than either of these jokers. They better not be back after this season.

I'm actually holding back on how I really feel in this thread.

Meech was pretty terrible last night versus the Devils. Kindl had more ice time than him, and in my opinion looked better too. Once Rafalski is back I'd like to see Kindl stay up until Kronner is back, leaving Meech back at 7th defenceman.

Being in attendance last night, the thing that struck me wasn't how bad Lebda or Meech were (although Lebda got caught pinching again), but was how much the Devils picked on Ericsson. They went right at him, and right around him. I get that he was paired with Lids, and given the choice of going down Lids side or Ericsson's side they would almost always go down Ericsson's, but he really did look more like an exposed weakness the Devils were exploiting.

I doubt Kindl will stay in Detroit. Once everyone is healthy he'd have to beat Lebda out for the #6 spot. BUT he'd be the 6th rookie on the team, which is something Holland will want to avoid at all costs.

I havn't been watching as attentively these past few games as I normally do (finals coming up), but to me Kindl has looked roughly 10 times better than Meech and about 7x better than Lebda. How could Holland not keep this guy? He hasn't been turning it over like Meech, can skate fast, has good size, and has a rocket of a shot.

the only reason i can see is he wants him to get top pairing mins in the AHL vs getting bottom pairing/7th dman mins in the nhl

Realistically, I don't think we'll see Kindl as a regular on the Red Wings until next season. Lebda by all rights (hoping) won't be re-signed, Meech may/may not be held onto, due to his RFA status and Lilja might have to end his career. That leaves the Wings 5 healthy defensemen. I think the only way Kindl gets to play often is the previous scenario, or if only Meech is retained. If Lilja comes back, I can see Kindl being the 7th guy, rotating time between Big E and perhaps Lils as well.

But for people calling for Lebda/Meech to be moved now... fat chance. I don't know any team who'd want to take on a below-par UFA defender... or a below par (except sometimes on the PP) RFA defender. I think we're stuck with Lebda and Meech until the end of this year.

Ken and Mick also mentioned stuff about E last night. They said something like "Babcock is really giving it to him tonight", than reviewed how much ice time he had. He was second in TOI last night. He looked pretty irritated all night to IMO.

This and the fact that Kindl would make this team about 30% rookies, which is not your typical Holland team.

That only makes sense. If you're driving the net and have to choose between the second greatest defenseman of all time or a rookie who would you chose? ;)

I'm still mad at Holmstrom for the first goal. And the second goal was Ozzy's fault. :(

Once Kindl is here for good he won't be getting 7th man mins. It's a similar situation to Ericsson-- the team has too much invested in his future to let him rot as a spare part. Next season I think we'll see Kindl as the 6th d-man.
