CenterIce 83 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 (edited) The referees are Paul Devorski, Mark Joannette, Dennis LaRue, Bill McCreary, Dan O'Halloran, Chris Rooney and Brad Watson. The linesmen include Shane Heyer, Jean Morin, Brian Murphy, Thor Nelson, Tim Nowak and Jay Sharrers. "It's basically performance over a longer period of time," he said. "What we looked at was performance from the last couple of years and also how they've been performing this fall. The guys who have worked the Stanley Cup Final over the last couple of years have certainly done a good job this fall and certainly put themselves to the head of the class." http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=508545 Edited December 4, 2009 by CenterIce

ltgator333 3 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 First thing that comes to my mind is that how well do these NHL referees know the IIHF rules that this tournament is supposed to be played to? Don't get me wrong if they want to play NHL rules so be it, but say so up front don't just unofficially do it. Hopefully these guys do a good job (fair, unbiased) or this is going to end up just another black eye on the face of the NHL, imo.
aflac9262 211 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 Dan O'Halloran Are you kidding me? What sorry ass picked this fool? Pardon the french, but it's well deserved when discussing this dolt of an official. He was considered because of his performance over the last few years? Have they actually tracked his performance? He does one hell of a job sucking at it. Someone in the organization lacks using metrics when it comes to evaluating officials. "We had to look at experience and every other element to come up with the numbers we were told we could utilize," NHL Senior Vice President and Director of Officiating Terry Gregson told NHL.com. Yeah, right. I find the "numbers we were told we could utilize" part highly suspicious too.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 The Czech Republic and Slovakia got lucky. They got their players out of the Wings organization before the Olympics. Norway FTW!

Guest zackmorris Report post Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) O'Halloran is foreign for "screw over any team from Detroit wearing red". Honestly, I truly believe if he didn't exist there's a good chance we take the 07 and 09 Cups as well. We were f***ed against Anaheim and even worse last season in that gargantuan sway job of a finals matchup. Edited December 5, 2009 by zackmorris

I think it's pretty obvious that 'Every other element' includes manipulating his immediate supervisors genitalia to issue. Makes sense that he's Olympics bound. As s***ty as some of them have been IIHF rules and Nhl rules are not that different. Don't forget it's still hockey. They have been around the game for years and if they don't kno them or can't learn them by Febuary they shouldn't be reffing but even I know the differnces between them. As far as I can tell, the guys in bold don't know the NHL rules either, so they should be fine.

Guest zackmorris Report post Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) Another instance where the NHL just plain doesn't get it, and the NFL does. If the NFL had a Olympic style event, they sure as hell wouldn't use the officials who have done nothing but f*** up over the years. No, those officials would be watching from home. But think about it. According to Gary Bettman, nothing is wrong with the NHL. Nothing ever goes wrong, his officials never make mistakes or bad calls. He just can't admit to anything being wrong, EVER. Now how the f*** are you supposed to fix a problem when you can't admit you have one!? Shady Ultima 40 Report post Posted December 5, 2009 Just wait until Russia scores a goal to tie the Americans and they call it no goal because of intent to whistle. I'm gonna miss the Russians in the NHL... (exagerating, but I have a BAD feeling)
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted December 5, 2009 Now how the f*** are you supposed to fix a problem when you can't admit you have one!? Him admitting a mistake is him saying he's not doing his job... I'm guessing he likes his job, seeing as he's done it so poorly for so long.
