To get back in position to make another save?

Jiri Fischer drafted 1st round, 25th pick.

Jonathan Ericsson 9th round, 291st pick, last player picked in the draft.

Was he really expected to become the next Fischer?

I think you are romanticizing Fischer. He definitely had his ups and downs. I remember when he was considered the biggest head case on the wings. Ericsson will be better than Fischer ever was.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Fisher certainly had his ups and downs early. But he was on an amazing stretch of great hockey before his injury.

I wasn't romanticizing him, I was just pointing out where the two players were drafted and the likely expectations on each one.

Fischer was really frustrating, he had all the skills but would make total bone-headed plays. But the season he had the heart thing, he really seemed to be getting it together. He had finally acheived a level of consistency.

You also have to remember that Fischer was much younger than Ericsson when he started playing for the Wings. He was 20 years old his rookie season. When Jiri had to retire, he was about the same age Ericsson is now.

I'd love for Ericsson to be better than Fischer. But it's also hard to say exactly how good Jiri would've been. He had a lot of potential and was starting to live up to it.

Sure, if you say so. Just remember how brutal Fisch was for a few years before he "matured". This is Big Rigs first full year. It will be a bit rocky.

Agreed, he was playing bad when he first was playing. But that last year he was unleashing fury. I remembered a dude cheapshotted Z and he closed lined him behind the net. Then the I believe a few games later the same guy went after Z again so, he boarded and injuried him. Then just stood over him like a bad ass, someone came into get into with him and he was just pushing them away.

But early yes he was bad, also to the Fisher Big Rig comparison there have been plenty of people since last playoffs callign this kid our next top line pairing
