Are Any of These Teams for Real?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

If the playoffs began today, Colorado, Los Angeles and Phoenix would all be in. Before the season, no one in their right mind would have predicted success for any of those teams. I can't even remember the last time Phoenix or LA made the playoffs.

So which of these teams (if any) do you see as making the playoffs and which do you see as being a threat in the playoffs? Conversely, which team will fizzle out as the season goes on?

All fizzle out, I'd pick Colorado to go somewhere IF I had a gun to my head.

No idea what exactly is going on in Phoenix.

L.A. errm.. There's gotta be some reason Kopitar wants out of there.

Well, 2000 years ago he promised that he would eventually come back to Earth.

And now he has finally appeared again, in Phoenix, in the form of Robert Lang.

I seem to recall LA getting a lot of hype at the end of last season and going into this one, I'm not terribly surprised to see them where they are after their start. I think of those teams LA has the best chance to squeek into one of the last spots. Goaltending is their issue right now.

The Wings will finish in 3rd place behind the Sharks and Blackhawks when it's all said and done. I'm not worried in the slightest.

Since this is impossible, you might have bigger things to worry about

Detroit would finish 4th or lower if Chicago was ahead of them. The division leaders/winners get the top three seeds.

Just ask Carolina, they know all about this rule. They went from 3rd to 9th when Washington won their last game of the season and overtook the division lead and 3rd place in the confrence. The 2007/08 season I think this was.

Yeah. Washington went on a crazy winning streak at the end of the season. Miracle for them.

Carolina was probably pissed. Anyone would be. s***tiest part in their eyes I bet is that Washington didnt get out of round 1.

Anze just signed a 7 year deal last season. Pretty bad decision if he really wants to leave LA...

I think the Kings are the real thing this season. Even without Smyth, they are still winning games. Maybe the Kings have finally figuered out how to win.

Phoenix and Colorado will only go where their stellar goaltending will take them this year. That could be sixth to 15th. LA seems to have a bit more going for them this year, and I think if they swing a deal for another centre, they could end up fourth or fifth.

What I find more interesting (among the teams that aren't Detroit) is that Vancouver would be out of the playoffs. I don't think anyone would have predicted that.

Did he really?

I had heard things about him wanting out of there, signing a 7 year deal I guess it's clear he doesnt, or just has bad neogoiating skills.

I've seen a lot of Kings games this season, and it looks like they are for real, they are getting their money's worth out of Kopitar, their D is pretty impressive, and Quick has been playing like a guy who can steal a few games.

As for Phoenix, I don't see them staying this hot, and Colorado, they will only make it as far as Anderson can carry them, and I have a feeling they are going to overwork him, and there's no way they can rely on Budaj to step up if Anderson loses steam or gets hurt from playing too much.

The Kings will definitely be in the playoffs, Colorado might be, and Phoenix will finish just outside, maybe 9th or 10th.
