BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) For the following teams who do you think will be captain of each? My picks... Canada - Jarome Iginla USA - Mike Modano Russia - Sergei Gonchar Sweden - Nicklas Lidstrom Slovakia - Zdeno Chara Czech Republic - Tomas Kaberle Finland - Saku Koivu I think the only one really questionable is Team USA... But if Modano does make it (which I think he should), he'll likely be captain. I honestly didn't know who else to pick... Rolston? Tkachuk? Rafalski? Langenbrunner? Guerin? Shady Ultima 40 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 Neidermeyer WILL be Canada's captain. There's no question about that. I don't really know about the rest, but I'd guess that Lidstrom would beat Alfredsson.

Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 I think Finland is questionable as well. Koivu or Koivu? Or Timonen for a compromise decision?

RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 Alexei Morozov will captain team Russia. That is 99.9%. This. He has been captain of their past couple of World Championship rosters, and they've been perfect with him on the ice.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 14, 2009 It's crazy how good Morozov has been doing in the KHL. He has been the best player not playing in the NHL for like the past 3 years. Has he overall just stepped up his game, or is he just a monster on bigger surface? If he were to play in the NHL, I think he'd be a perennial top 20 scorer, if not better. Theophany 110 Report post Posted December 15, 2009 Canada - Scott Niedermayer USA - Mike Modano Russia - Sergei Gonchar Sweden - Daniel Alfredsson Slovakia - Zdeno Chara Czech Republic - Tomas Kaberle Finland - Valteri Filppula Really? You think that Alfredsson will be captain over Lidstrom? Personal achievements really don't play into it, but you do realize that Alfredsson really only has a Calder to his name, as opposed to Lidstrom's 6 Norrises, 4 Cups, Conn Smythe, and Olympic All-Star (if we count NHL All-Star nominations, Lids also has more)? This is an honest question.

Leadership doesn't degrade with age.

Leadership doesn't degrade with age. It's really not an outrageous claim to say that Alfredsson might be Sweden's captain. He's very popular over here, probably more so than Lids (atleast he was before Nick scored that goal in 2006) and he has participated in way more international tournaments than Lids have, and has often been a big leader in them. If Sundin still played, he'd be the captain for sure. Now it's between Lids and Alfie and honestly either one of them is a good choice.

If it came down to popularity among fans then Lids vs Alfie is probably quite an even contest. But who will the players respect more? Who will carry the team better? I'd give the edge to Lids. Guest mindfly Report post Posted December 15, 2009 Alfredsson has had a better season, I'd say go with the one who is hot come february. Not much wrong with lidstroms defensive play but when it comes to the offense it's not there at all...

In that case we should pick Henrik Sedin, he's on fire.

hak 21 Report post Posted December 15, 2009 For me Lidstrom is pretty much a lock as captain. With all the red wings players in the team it's just natural. It's not crazy to suggest Alfredsson but I really doubt anyone other than lids gets the C for obvious reasons. No one has as much playoff experience and achievments as him. It's not even close
