Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Jimmy Howard stats update: GAA: 2.27 (Rank: 8th) SV%: 0.920 (Rank: Tied for 11th with Brodeur) Wins: 11 (Rank: 15th*) SO: 1 (Rank: Tied for 18th) Win%: 0647 (Rank: 8th**) *This is a deceptive number since he gets significantly fewer starts than most of the people above him. For example, only 4 of the 14 guys above him have had fewer than 10 more starts and only 1 goalie has started less games than Howard but has more wins. **I calculated this stat myself using a spreadsheet. It's just the number of wins divided by the number of games started. I only calculated this for the top 30 goalies ranked by number of wins. I'm really impressed that Howard's GAA and SV% are 8th and 11th place respectively. That means he averages out as a top 10 goalie in the league right now (at least in terms of stats). Rivalred 630 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Why the F*ck would they trade him? Our season would be sunk if not for his play the past month. Please people, Eat less paint. Sarcasm, joke, tongue-n-cheek comment.

Opie 308 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Wow, looking good J-Ho!!!! Work on those rebounds Jimmy, keep up with the positioning work, and whatever and I mean whatever Chris Osgood has to say to you, put down everything you doing and listen (unless it is the wife!) HE HAS BEEN THERE DONE THAT! Ok seriously talking to you guys because Jimmy is not reading this post! I hope (have no clue though) that Jimmy and Ozzie have a great relationship, even if Jimmy out plays Ozzie all year, the Wings need to keep Ozzie within shouting distance of Jimmy (that means no trades). What hasn't Ozzie seen? What really gets him rattled? Other than the media dogging him. Great learning environment for Jimmy!
Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I would really appreciate it if Babcock gave Howard some starts against good (even great) teams for once. I think he has earned it.
sliverck 3 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 The Wings need to stick with what's working and right now that is Howard. It doesn't matter if he lets in an absurd goal every so often, the fact is with him in net the team has a much better shot at winning. All these injuries we have is completely and utterly ridiculous and so is the idea of bringing in another goalie. Come playoff time, if we make it, I would still go with Ozzie. But if he falls on his face at all I would not hesitate to bring in Howard. He's gotta learn to handle playoff pressure at some point if he wants to stay an NHL goalie and I don't see why he couldn't.
Opie 308 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I would really appreciate it if Babcock gave Howard some starts against good (even great) teams for once. I think he has earned it. I agree he needs to see some upper echelon teams, like the next time SJS is in town, he should get at least one of the CHI starts, and they doing well as of late, developing some chemistry on their lines. He will get his shot, I think, but no better way to build his confidence!

I think he has as much confidence as he is gonna get playing against the weaker teams in the NHL.
Opie 308 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) How many games has he played so far? I think he has as much confidence as he is gonna get playing against the weaker teams in the NHL. I don't know man confidence with goaltenders especially young ones is a fragile thing. Edit: And seeing him react to OT winners, he may not be the most experienced net minder in the game and could use experience as well as confidence! Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Updated, sorry for the delay and thanks ACG for covering for me. Anyway, Babs can't shelter Howard from upper-tier teams forever. The kid is noticeably more confident in net compared to the first month, and he has shown that he gets less and less flustered after letting in a soft goal (which are coming more rarely). At the very least he has earned a start against a team higher in the standings than us.

Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 19, 2009 Don't be so sure... I feel like Ken and Mickey read these forums because every time some consensus opinion on someone pops up here regardless of what the greater media has been saying, they seem to mention something along the same lines within a couple days of us. titanium2 867 Report post Posted December 19, 2009 I wonder which poster is a Red Wings player. You could argue for a lot of them. That one guy who likes to play devil's advocate for Crosby. Eva and his Hudlerness. There are some here that are usually pretty cheerful and optimistic. They would be... Eaves?

redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 Is it just me or does jimmy look like he's getting better by the game? It just seems that he is confident and just goes out there and plays his game and he looks a lot better than earlier on in the season. If you look at all the goalies who have started 20 or more games he is in the top 10 in just about every category i think. I am actually getting used to seeing him in goal now and am quite comfortable with him in net on a nightly basis. I actually think he has been a bright spot so far this year. Keep it up jimmy! Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 updated, and I would like to point out that right now Jimmy Howard is officially in the top 10 league wide for both GAA and save percentage, and sitting 4th best for both categories in the Western Conference. Not bad for a kid with less than 40 games NHL experience.

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 He played well in the last game against Colorado other than giving up a questionable goal in the 3rd. Hopefully he continues his good play that he showed against Columbus against the Avs tonight.
