Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 This is a pretty ambitious task it seems. It makes me feel like my "watch thread" is really crappy. Maybe I'll soup it up a bit. Anyway, cool to see the stats, especially when there's improvement.

Anyway, cool to see the stats, especially when there's improvement. I like the individual player watch threads too. I just stole that idea so I could apply it to the whole team. The cool thing with this is I can drag it up after each game and we'll get to see how the Wings, as a team, do over time by looking back on the old posts. TheWestWing 71 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 Numbers are our friends. Take some out to lunch. Do you do requests? Probably not available on NHL so you'll have to do a spreadsheet. As we know its not about wins or winning %, its all about points. Track the % of points 'earned': GP - 32. Points available 64. Points 'earned' - 37 % 'earned - 57.8% Last year we were like 68% and 8th seed was 55% so we're treading dangerously (but hey, Jimmy D said to expect as much eh?). Drake, I strongly approve of this thread. I'll be watching the meteoric rise of the PK and the frustratingly linked descent of the PP with great interest. Carman 387 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 Neato, nice idea there Drake. Looking forward to seeing what the numbers tell us.
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 I did this last year with winning %, SAG, SFG, GAA and GFA for my own amusement. It's pretty easy to set up an excel spreadsheet then you just enter the relevant numbers for each game. If you do it after each game, it's not much work. The important part are the TRENDS. The Wings PK is something like 27 out of 28 in the last several games which is awesome but if you average that against how terrible it was earlier you end up with a so-so number and that doesn't tell the story. Good deal though. Keep us up to date.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 I'm glad everyone likes it I'll add the % of pts earned to my last post.

It'd be funny if you actually did use SPSS. Maybe you can find a statistical interaction that proves Pav and Z truly play better together.

ACG is more of a Jake Ryan passive aggressive thing, though, not a chosen nickname. I'm just someone who doesn't change their avatar often because I feel that avatars are good for quickly recognizing different users and switching them around kind of defeats that purpose. Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted December 14, 2009 Awesome thread idea. While I've never been big on tracking the numbers myself, the trend portion will make it a worthwile visit. Thanks for taking the time, Drake.

Thanks for taking the time, Drake. You're welcome. Once I have enough game to game data I'll start plotting the trends in a spreadsheet so we can see how the various metrics are doing graphically. Know what's funny? In the dozens of math course I've done stats was my least favourite. I don't even consider stats "real" math.
