Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted December 20, 2009 I think we had injuries back then. Franzen and Helm come to mind. I think Zetterberg was nursing a nagging groin if my memory serves me correctly. Franzen scored a goal in that game with a torn ACL.

Brevard 6 Report post Posted December 20, 2009 I think we had injuries back then. Franzen and Helm come to mind. I think Zetterberg was nursing a nagging groin if my memory serves me correctly. Franzen played 18 + minutes and Zetterberg almost 22. Of course the Hawks were missing a 1st, 2nd and 4th liner that game and lost a close one. Or do you not consider opposition injuries as they cut into your excuse factor?
Brevard 6 Report post Posted December 20, 2009 I think it's cool how even with our depleted roster and 1/2 full (1/2 empty for the other half of you) home arena, that we can still provide sellouts when we are on the road. Haters can say what they want but when is the last time an arena sold out because the Coyotes (plug in your own team) were in town? Chicago hasn't had a non sellout in over a year now. Or do you not consider opposition injuries as they cut into your excuse factor? You are correct, Franzen scored a goal against the Hawks with a torn ACL. Thanks for refreshing my memory. Helm and Lilja was out. Zetterberg was also having groin issues. That said, why make excuses? We won! Just like we did last year in the playoffs against the Hawks when we had a bunch of key injuries. I wouldn't be surprised if Wings win again with their current AHL lineup, after all we did last year in the playoffs. I would certainly be very happy if we win with our $33 million dollar roster I'm so f'ing proud of my team. They are playing through the impossible, and winning more times than not. No team in the NHL could endure what this team has endured.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted December 20, 2009 Sure, the Wings are depleted and this looks like 2 easy wins, but I have a gut feeling that the Wings team we know and love will show up, players missing or not, and steal at least one of these games. They seem to come through when things look the darkest. After all, we've seen that most of our AHL lineup can handle play defensively, so all we need is Bert Datsyuk and a role player to show up and score one or two and we'll be okay, I think. The Hawks offense isn't doing that much better than our own (I don't know about recently, I'm talking overall stats). I checked a couple of days ago and we were equal in goals for. Shady Ultima 40 Report post Posted December 20, 2009 The Hawks offense isn't doing that much better than our own (I don't know about recently, I'm talking overall stats). I checked a couple of days ago and we were equal in goals for. Honestly, with a fully healthy line up, they got shut out 2 games in a row, around the same time we got shut out by St. Louis. And not by great teams either. They're looking like we have from time to time, making crappy, backup goalies look like Vezina candidates.

Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted December 20, 2009 It is always amusing to see how excited opponents are about "beating" a team as decimated by injuries as the Wings are right now. As if they've actually beaten the actual Wings? Too bad a loss will look the same in the standings, despite reality. I have faith these guys will pull out all the stops tomorrow. If they lose, it won't be because they didn't do their best. I believe they will win, BTW! They are beating the "actual wings". I'm sure you've discounted for injuries in every win the wings have made...
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 After the game today Larry was talking about the Hawks. I agree with Larry when he said expect Black Hawks to bring their "A" game - best of the season - against us, because with Wings depleted line up, this is the best opportunity for the Hawks to (try) to take advantage... considering how we're still only lingering a few points back on them. Hawks are going to want to reinforce the lead against us because they know once Detroit gets some players back, we're going to start gaining (and probably surpass them) in the standings. So that makes these next 2 games even more important for the Hawks. So expect Hawks to bring their best game against Detroit's $33 million dollar roster (Griffins AHL Hockey). I was hoping Black Hawks would take us for granted, but we all know they need these wins as much as we do, due to how tight the standings are between us. We play them 5 more times this season and Wings (should be somewhat healthy) by the last few games where we can take some more points from them. That said, I'm starting to think that it may not be the BlackHawks to be as concerned about, Preds seem to be the hottest team in our division right now, and could easily sneak by to take 1st place while Hawks / Wings beat the s*** out of each other. Glad we just recently beat the Preds. Now lets beat those Hawks. I think we can still beat them despite our $33 million dollar roster and depleted line up. Wings are the best organization in the league, and we're showing everyone why; we're still kicking ass. -- I smell a Chicago upset, btw - They're quickly going to learn what Red Wings hockey really is; gutsy, resilient, determination, hard working guys despite having only a $33 mil roster Go Wings Griffins! Well, it may not have been an A game, but the Blackhawks certainly bought a better game than the Red Wings...

Or do you not consider opposition injuries as they cut into your excuse factor? We were playing the second of back to back nights tonight while Chicago had an opportunity to rest back in October. Additionally, the magnitude of our injuries tonight is something that I don't think I have every seen in the NHL before, Chicago's team now or back in October included. Finally, despite the Wings not giving an A game tonight, the only goals that Chicago were able to score were fluky and had more to do with Osgood's weaknesses than the Blackhawks' strengths. Granted we were outplayed tonight, but if Osgood was on his game tonight the Wings would have been one shot away from a tie/win until the final buzzer. All things considered I'm still comfortable with our chances in another Wings/Hawks matchup next May/June.

Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 Hawks beat the Wings Griffins 3-0 after playing a back-2-back road trip. Hawks fans are probably planning the cup parade as I type this.
Guest Blackhawkdown Report post Posted December 21, 2009 If that was the Hawks 'A' game, I'm not worried in the least. Dont worry, that wasnt our "A" game . A shut out is a shut out, and thats more than I expected tonight. I really thought Detroit would have brought a little more to the table, kinda let down to be honest. Injuries or no injuries the Wings were dominated tonight. Maybe they will bring a little more in this next game.

Maybe they will bring a little more in this next game. For sure the Hawks were the better team tonight. I hope Wings bring their A game on Wednesday. It'll be nice having the schedule favor us. Hawks are playing 3 games in 4 nights? Wings finally get a little breather with their schedule. Edited December 21, 2009 by Miller Brew
