Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Honestly, reading through this thread, I highly doubt half of you have even seen Ritola play, certainly judging by a few of the descriptions of him as a player. He is NOT soft, he plays a reasonably physical game actually. He'll constantly hit opponents into the boards and if the opening presents itself he'll certainly take the oppertunity. He'll foreheck and backcheck very well and he would comfortably lead the Griffins in takeaways. Beautiful puck control, good defensively (despite his +/- stat) and is highly skilled. Doesn't shoot the puck enough, and is sometimes prone to giveaways when he holds onto the puck too much. However overall he's a skilled guy with decent size who plays on both the PK and PP with the Griffins. Excited by this move, quite pumped actually. One of my favourite prospects who has a terrific attitude.. And I see one or two posters have called for Emmerton, yeah, because his one assist and -6 in the past 11 games is inspiring. He doesn't hit like Helm or any typical North American checking player and so that will always be perceived as lack of a physical game. It's just the way it is. It's fun to watch him and yet frustrating at the same time. In many games this year he's been all over the ice making play after play but at the same time with nothing to show for it in the end as in no points. It's not for lack of trying though. Or intelligence. I think he has a good amount of both of those things. Some players just seem to have better puck luck about them and he just doesn't have much of that. Guest lnvincible Report post Posted December 23, 2009 I do yes. Leino sucks. Newbury has been a far greater asset than he has whilst hes been here. Turns out Ritola is getting called up anyway. Your lack of logic is funny LOL! Every post...something stupid.

Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted December 24, 2009 After seeing the first 33 minutes of this game... I am convinced, Mattias Ritola is the next Wayne Gretzky. He is providing much more spark than Newburry.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 It's not like Ritola was bad or anything, he just didnt play. I dont know why we'd call these kids up if we're not going to give them a chance. I liked what I saw from Kindl last night.

Well, in all fairness, we don't see many goals anymore, so Newbury is like a God to us. He walked on water......I mean scored a goal for the Wings.

Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 Just as I said back on pg. 2 or 3. It was a lateral 4th line move. Nothing was expected from either player and neither player would have been the savior. I guess some posters here wanted Wings to goon it up, so I guess if this is what Babcock wanted to do, his best option would have been Newbury... if that were the case. Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 im not really understanding why Babcock decided to only play him 7 minutes. He looked like a quicker, bigger Leino...
newfy 695 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 I wonder if this is a move to see if he can replace Leino in the line up and ship tonight show out for a draft pick or something. Did anyone else consider ths possibility?

Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 I wonder if this is a move to see if he can replace Leino in the line up and ship tonight show out for a draft pick or something. Did anyone else consider ths possibility? No. If the Wings had a healthy roster, Leino wouldn't have so much pressure, which would give him more time to adapt to the big league (on the 3rd line). When the season started I thought Leino-Flip-Williams looked dynamite together. Leino showed nice flashes with Zetterberg after Flip went down, but I think matching up against 2nd liners and top defenders took what little confidence Leino had. I'm sure Holland is not giving up on Leino.
Pucks 66 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 I posted earlier that Babcock and Holland don't seem to be on the same page a lot. Maybe Holland should say, "Hey Mike? If I send (some guy) up there, how will you use him?" Or Babcock can say, "Hey Kenny can I have ( some player) to slot in at this position." If the intention was to swap out 4th liners, it seems really pointless anyway.
