Thanks. I wasn't sure if he retired or was playing in the KHL. Never saw him as possibly coaching, though.
FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 1st line should be: Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Kovalchuk That's a scary line....
Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 1st line should be: Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Kovalchuk That's a scary line.... Ovechkin and Kovalchuk in the same line would be very stupid. Not only they both want the puck all the time, but you don't get as much out of their game unlike when they're separated.
Carman 387 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 1st line should be: Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Kovalchuk That's a scary line.... No way is Datsyuk a first liner on that team. He's not that good.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 No way is Datsyuk a first liner on that team. He's not that good. I've honestly never seen a bigger flame baiter than you. Don't you ever get bored with it? While I agree that Datsyuk, the way he is playing right now, shouldn't be considered a first line center on this team, to imply that he isn't good enough to center any two players on this team is nothing more than another one of your feeble bait attempts. Guest mindfly Report post Posted December 26, 2009 When datsyuk is on his game he's no doubt top3 in the nhl in the overall category, who says he won't play like his life was on the line he has yet to win the olympic gold and it was 4years ago he played with his countrymen and this time he most likely will play with even higher skilled players than back in 06 (can't remember what role he had in 02 must've been a role with minimal icetime so i dont count that one)

Line combinations are more about chemistry than they are about individual talent. I'm pretty sure Carman realizes this, but he just can't help himself. Maybe he doesn't get enough attention in real life?

stactum 4 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 (edited) Something tells me that Datsyuk will be 2nd and Malkin 3rd line center on that team First line: OV-Feds-Semin - already played together on WCH Kovy-Dats-Afinogenov - both, kovy and afi aren't responsible in their own end so Dats will help them out Morozov-Malkin-Radulov Zaripov-Kozlov-Zinoviev Markov-Volchenkov Gonchar-Kalinin Tyutin-Grebeshkov Bryzgalov Nabokov Look at this, it's pretty sweet: PP1 Morozov-Malkin-Semin OV-Markov PP2 Afi-Dats-Radulov Kovi-Gonchar Edited December 26, 2009 by stactum

KonstantAdvisor 4 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 No way is Datsyuk a first liner on that team. He's not that good. This does read as pretty big flamebait. Someone mentioned a well-known former Wing that isn't on Team Russia also. I'm actually surprised because he has continued to put up solid numbers in Atlanta, especially game winners and without nearly as many shot opportunities as Pavel. People have mentioned Federov, at 40, may play defense and also that Russian defenders all seem much more offense-minded . Dare I say Ozolinsh-esque? Maybe it's just team chemistry or people feel like he doesn't exemplify the work ethic of the other Russian stars? From what I remember, about as clutch as clutch could be against famous Canadian goalies with Stanley Cup rings stuffed in their ears. He wasn't listed in the offical NHL press release either, despite putting up numbers which are quite comparable to Datsyuk. He was not on the 1998 or the 2002 or the 2006 roster, either - then ostensibly because so many Wings were already an important component of Team Russia. Maybe he's just not interested in the Olympics? I am surprised that he was not listed as an alternate, either. Also missing from the team is defensemen Sergei Zubov and forwards Nikita Filatov, Nikolai Zherdev, Alexei Yashin and Maxim Shusinsky, the leading scorer in the KHL. My opinion only, but the elder #13 deserves a shot if Team Russia wants to win gold. Whether or not he gets a lot of ice time or is only on the power play, I think he can help lead the team when their spirit is lost, even if the .

stuck in socal 56 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 Weak defense but best offense. They will play hard and hopefully Datsyuk can get into a scoring groove that will carry over back into the rest of the NHL season.

sibiriak 84 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 ANd that pretty much sums up why I wouldn't have faith in the KHL guys. Theyre going to have to play on the small ice against guys like Mike Richards, Shane Doan, Brendan Morrow, Iginla, Perry, Getzlaf or Nash. Good luck adjusting to that in a few games then trying to handle those guys on the small ice. Ironically, the even the 4 Russian Olympians without significant NHL experience already HAVE faced almost all of the Canadian players you named in WC (except Morrow, IIRC) several times and beaten them twice. Zinoviev tried NHL but didn't like it. Nikulin played in AHL. Zaripov and Korneev never played in NA. The rest have all played significant number of NHL games and were adequate or better NHLers.
