newfy 695 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) Well I thought after tonight us fight fans deserved a thread. This is the first time the wings have had 2 different players fight in one night and I liked what I saw. How about that punch May landed on Boll? Beauty.... And Janik showed he isn't scared to go against a fairly tough opponent. Hopefully the management see this guy is tough and can play jut as well as Lebda and we see Lebda gone for a draft pick or something. Thats what I want to see at least. Oh and this year May is starting to make a name for himself as a somwhat respectable light heavy. This is his first year in a while being the toughest on the team and his fight numbers are way up compared to recent years. And the team was scrumming it up after whistles or when people got near the tendy. We actually had a backbone tonight and I loved it. Anyways two good showings by 2 solid fighters tonight. About time we got a backbone. EDIT: And for the non fight fans that say fighters giong off the face off protects noone, May wanted to go Boll off the draw tonight but Boll wouldn't. Boll then proceeded to almost take Rafalski's head off later in the shift. If they fought off the draw thi wuoldn't have happened. Guest micah Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Nice job, guys. May, way to beat a younger, bigger, hungrier opponent. JAnik, way to send the message that you don't like being lined up. It might make the next guy hley up a bit - still, keep your head up, kid!
newfy 695 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 I really want Janik over Meech or Lebda. Same. He looks solid defensively to me and just showed he can drop the gloves, Lebda hasn't shown he can do either of these.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Yeah, I also hope Janik plays over Meech and Lebda. As for May, that was his best showing of the season. Still, a young Brady May would have destroyed Boll when he was hurt midway through the fight. This May doesn't have that killer instinct anymore. But notice Boll didn't run our stars anymore after May challenged and beat him. Before that, he ran Datsyuk and Rafalski. So enforcers don't deter, huh? haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 It's nice to have a few players out there who will drop the gloves. May, Janik, Abby. With the fights tonight the Wings just matched their fight total from last season (11). Now we just need someone like a young Stevie Yzerman to score us some goals. Yeah in my initial post my edit made a point about how if they would've fought off the draw like May wanted too, Rafalski wouldn't have been ran and that could have been prevented. May wanted to go off the face off because of what Boll pulled on Dats, noone would've noticed that if they fought off the draw but it just goes to show those fights off the draw do more then people think. I think this fight proved alot about how enforcers can help
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Two fights? We *must* have won... right?
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Yeah, I enjoyed the fights and May landed a humdinger against Boll. As I said in the GDT, this team lacks the skill needed to be an elite team but their physicality, passion and work ethic are refreshing. They don't get pushed around and they don't take any sh** off anyone. They also hit and play a physical game that's exciting to watch. Obviously, I'd take the puck possession game and 50 wins, but there is an upside to watching a more average team this year with the injuries.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Two fights? We *must* have won... right? No, but we didn't have anyone injured either. The way Boll was running our players earlier in the game, that was a possibility. May enforced and deterred Boll from running anymore guys to start s***. thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 No, but we didn't have anyone injured either. No one got hurt the game beore, when we had no fights but scored two goals. I'll take that. Fights are icing. Right now, we need cake.

We can have both. May and Janik are hardly to blame for the scoring woes. Blame that on the injuries, and on Datsyuk and Lidstrom having no scoring touch whatsoever this year. May and Janik are doing their job better than these other guys are.
diehardredwing19 11 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 felt good to see that... we needed this as in tuff guys no our team... also id love to see our 3rd pairing as Ericsson & Janik ...over lebda once everyones healthy cuz lilja just doenst look like hes gonna come back:(

Blame that on the injuries, and on Datsyuk and Lidstrom having no scoring touch whatsoever this year. May and Janik are doing their job better than these other guys are. I agree we can have both. But when the injured return, I don't see either getting much time (though I would also prefer Janik to Lebda and Meech, but doubt it will happen). So enjoy your fights now. I am damn near guaranteeing when the fighting majors subside, the scoring will return. And until fighting majors determine the outcome, I'll take the goals. And May's hit was freaking AWESOME. I didn't watch the game last night but I'm guessing Boll wasn't being as stupid as he was tonight. He popped Datsyuk right infront of the bench while he was going for a line change then took a run for Rafalski's head. If he didn't get put in check he probably woulda done it all night and coulda ended up with an injury or
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Was the hit on Dats legal? I'm tired of retribution over legal hits. It's part of the game.
newfy 695 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Was the hit on Dats legal? I'm tired of retribution over legal hits. It's part of the game. No it wasn't a check, he was roughing him up and had is gloves up in his face and stuff. I wouldn't care if it was a legal hit on Dats but when Boll starts acting tough like that on a line change someone should do something.

The only time I don't mind retribution on a clean hit is if a goon type player is running around for a whole shift trying to kill your star players and eventually tags one of them hard on a clean hit but you can tell the guy was head hunting. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 May, Janik, and even Boll, to a lesser degree, went up a notch in my book. Boll can still go put his sausage in his own oven, but I have to give props for his resiliance. May is a great asset. He can handle the puck and is defensively responsible. I would like to see him kept up as an extra once the injured are back. Put him in games where we may need him. Janik has been good as well. Certainly over Meech or Lebda, although I'd rather see Lebda gone for picks, pucks, or packs of pricks with pucks. I don't care at this point. Once we get our offense back (speaking here of offensively-minded d-men as well), we will get goals. We have the makings of a good defense for once. Howard has earned my approval, despite my initial reservations. Enforcers are all that was missing. People talk about wanting wins. I don't think any of us here don't want a win. We CAN have it all, and the pieces are either here or coming back soon.
