but I would bring him back here. Not sure what his salary is, though.

No way. He's not the same Schneider as 2007. Also, his cap it is 2.7 mill, 1.5 mill salary. No way, no thanks.

we could use that cap space much more effectively. He still has a good shot from the point, but he's just not the type of player we need. We need a Lilja type player, a big D-man that can play on the PK and wear guys down. Schneider is more an offensive minded defensman and we have 3 of those (Lidstrom, Kronwall, Rafalski).

In fairness to cats, I give old, slow, injury-prone Schneider the do-not-want cat:

He's not the same as ppl have said, and for that matter don't you remember how awful he was in his own zone? Rafalski was an upgrade at the time. That and the penalties, in his own zone.

It would be nice to see him play out the season somewhere but I'm not optimistic. I will join in the Lebda bashing though. Every year that guy surprises me by still having a job.

Why do you guys think the Canuckleheads are waivin the guy? Because they hoped he would quarterback the Power Play and provide some Offense, but he HAS NOT. His gas guage says EMPTY. He is 40 and done.

In all fairness, they were forcing a #2-3 Power Play specialist into a #1 role. Not good.

Like Brad Staurt with every team he played with, forced into roles he couldn't handle. Which is why he does better with the wings. He's playing the role he should play. Same in Detroit, Mat would be paying a role he should be. Paired with Big Rig on the third pairing and manning the 2nd PP with Kronner. Not only does our 2nd PP unit instantly get better by having Mat there. You also get JWill off the D PP, and possibly down low as a forward.

Hmm. You may have a point there.

Hmm. You may still have a point there.

Hes old but still has talent left. Fits the redwings system perfectly and is still a scoring threat at the blueline.

Also a right handed shooter which gives us 2 defenseman to use with lidstrom/kronwall/stuart
