May vs Boll, Janik vs Picard

If it were really about the safety of the Wings, where was the fight on Hejda or Nash for their dirty hits? If anything, it was frustration. It still stopped gameplay, which is all too common now where a clean and usually decent hit follows up with a fight, regardless of who is hit. May's hit still prevented nothing, except in Boll's case him sitting out for 5 mins prevented him from running any more guys -- that's pretty much the extent of it. The "message" is obviously non-existent.

? nash would not have fought our guys, although i do agree he deserved some punishment. where was the frustration? it was a 0-0 goal tending battle on both ends of the ice, boll deserved what he got, and yes there might have a been a little frustration on janiks part because he got clocked and didnt like it. i would have never agreed with posters like uk_wing and GMR last year, but the days of the powerplay enforcer are over, for now at the very least. we need guys to know that just taking a penalty isnt enough anymore, they need to pay for their disrespect and intentions of hurting/running our best guys on the ice, whether it be a monster hit or hammers to the face.

This thread has been hijacked by morons who clearly have no problems with goons roughing up Datsyuk and our other star players.

if im not mistaken datsyuk gave boll the business last night, but i would have a problem if someone elbowed him or something, which hasn't happened since phaneuf did it like 3 years ago.

Umm, which of those hits that preceded the fights was a penalty or even dirty anyways? Answer: none. Obviously it didn't stop other dirty hits from happening either (the only one who relatively calmed down was Boll, and he played very little anyways), only a few of which actually got called. So what are we enforcing again? Answer: nothing. This whole notion of enforcing is bunk. These fights after hits is just people getting frustrated and taking it out and nothing more. It isn't just an issue that concerns the Wings either.

Dats' took a pretty nasty and blatant elbow from Niedermayer last year in the playoffs. It put him in a situation where the had to defend himself and is probably lucky he didn't get hurt.

So shoreline, go watch figure skating or women's hockey and we'll watch the nhl. Then every one is happy!!!!!

Man, I wish I could turn back the clock a few years to when lgw was worth going to.

I mean a cheapshot during play, not when a team like the Ducks goons it up in the final seconds of a playoff game. Pavel held his own with niedermayer anyways.

Jerm, how about watch WWE or MMA and I'll watch hockey. If this issue weren't so widely addressed you might actually have a point. Damn, I wish I could turn back the clock when making analogies about the past was actually cool.

How many cheapshots did Boll deliver after the fight?

He roughed up Datsyuk and had a couple shifts where he wasn't even trying to play the puck at all and was running around head hunting. Guess what.. The days of a power play enforcer are over so get used to it.

And if Boll would have went off the face off Rafalski wouldn't have gotten ran from halfway across the ice. So yeah last night's fight was a perfect example of enforcer prevention.

Does anyone think Boll would be running players if May wasn't in the roster? I'm not saying he wouldn't, but I think it's something to consider. There are very few, truly heat-of-the-moment fights in the NHL anymore. In fact, the "garbage" fight between Janik and Picard was more spontaneous than Boll/May. Let's not kid ourselves, we all know the story about Barch and May. Their fights are anything but spontaneous.

Wait, what? Are you saying that boll was running players so that May would fight him? Did you watch the game? It was clear at the faceoff before their fight that Boll did not have the intent of fighting May. May challenged, Boll said no, and made another questionable hit. May said "no more!" and they fought - and there was no more, because May is awesome:)

Yeah, that was more a rhetorical question. My point was more along the lines of: most fights are staged, May already fought Boll this season, Boll is going to do what it takes to get in a fight, because that's his role.

We have two options for looking at Boll's actions post-May: either he cowardly tucked his tail between his legs and went to licking his wounds on the bench, or he didn't need to give May an excuse to fight anymore. Kind of like how ESAD bumps the "pro-enforcer" thread to bring out the "trolls".

Honestly the camera panned to follow Ritola with the puck so I'm not really sure how the scrap started, but it's not like Boll was taken by surprise.

Even when a fight deters a guy from running any more star players, the anti-enforcer slappies still fail to acknowledge that it deterred anything.

I missed most of the game so I can't get into a twenty page argument dealing with semantics and interpretation.

Next time?

while it was good that boll got beat on shorelines point is correct too after may fought boll was there anyone else running our players? from what i read thats a yes so obviously May fighting Boll didnt deter others from running our players.

also why fight after a clean hit like may did but there has been times where it has been a dirty hit and may didnt fight

Because, Boll had it coming to him and he knew it. I am not going to explain.

do you even know what an analogy is? I never made one. And fighting has been an integral part of hockey since before any of us on here was watching it. For crying out loud, did you just skip the 70's and 80's? Or are you a recent cup bandwagon fan?

Great post, Shoreline definitely is a bandwagon fan. I'm not too certain he understands pre 1999 hockey.

Quite the phenomenon is happening here. Posters that have been around for years are coming out to support old school hockey, while the kids are signing up in droves to support post lockout Bettman-era hockey.

I'm one of the younger posters, yet I support old school hockey, and adore some of the fighters of the 70's and 80's like Wilson, Nystrom and Brown.

I don't think it's necessarily age related.

I concur, assuming that I'm almost as young as them or younger.(not sure how old they are but they can't be much younger.)

And shoreline did you watch the game? Yeah Nash having one hit where it was a bit questionable is really the same as a known goon like Boll who fights alot punching Dats in the head then chargin across the ice at Rafalski.

It seems to me like Shoreline is a bit cranky that his team isn't a bunch of ******* that don't stick up for themselves. Sucks to bee you I guess. Iwould tell you to go watch some other team (like you do to us grit slappies telling us to watch Philly and Anaheim). The problem with that is that everyother team plays hockey the way its supposed to be played and there isn't any softer teams.

Figure skating it is I guess.

There's always the KHL for him to go watch. :hehe:

There were 2 fights in one game last night and we lost the game? How can that be?

And I held season tickets from 83-99, so don't call me a bandwagoner.
