Seraph 240 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Many players do this. The price was probably set by the memorabilia store... other times the money goes to a charity or cause. It certainly doesn't mean he'd charge you if you caught him after a game or something.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 As the above poster said, it's usually the store thats collecting about 90% of the fee for autographs.
rage 24 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 yeah, this is WAY out of context.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 So do I. Paypal, checks, cash, and gift cards only, please. Seriously, that's for one of those autograph sessions put on by someone who makes money off of it. I'm sure he gets compensated for his time, and probably very well, but it's not like he's going to charge some kid in the hospital on his next visit. All players of note do it. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Hopefully that's nothing like the (unconfirmed) story that LeBron James said "Twenty-five bucks" when a young child asked him for an autograph in a non-commercial setting, and then refused when the child didn't have the money. b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) Crosby doesn't charge. Then again Crosby is a better person. that didn't take long..... As others have said, this is way out of context and memorabilia shops often do charge a pretty hefty sum. I'm sure AO is getting a piece of the action, he is spending the time afterall, but this makes it sound like he is sitting there with a mayonnaise jar full of kids' allowance in one hand and a Sharpie in the other, turning away the poor and the unwashed. I totally believe this. Remember this summer when Lebron was dunked on during his summer camp and he had all of his men go confiscate any cameras and all eveidence of the dunk? Yeah, the guy's a joke. A total ******. To the topic at hand, yeah every Pro has to charge something when they are in a auto-session. The people that host the auto-session need money for their time, place of venue, and costs. This is not an un-common practice.
