Your 5 All Time Favorite NHL Goals?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Doesn't have to be Red Wing plays, although the majority will, but I think it's not a bad idea to share our all time favorite goals. These aren't really set in stone for me, but they are the goals I can think of at the top of my head.

Number 5...

Number 4...

Number 3... (Both are neck and neck)

Number 2...

Number 1... (Possibly everyone's)

Now these videos don't have to come with a YouTube clip... If you can't find it, or are too lazy to post it, just describe it. The intention of this thread is just to relive some amazing goals that we might have forgot about.

#5 multi way tie (these + datsyuk dangle/zetterberg spin/franzen inside out)

the end to end Fedorov goal which is #10 on here (a great example of his ability to take over the game)

#4 - Larionov scores in Triple OT (see end)

Pretty much all of mine were already taken, so I mixed mine up. The top 3 are indisputably my favorite goals. #'s 4 and 5 were goals I hadn't already seen on the list, so I threw them in.

5. The EuroTwins at work...

4. No list would be complete without arguably the most famous goal in NHL history...

3. Steve Yzerman's 2OT goal. Never get tired of seeing this.

2. The infamous Statue of Liberty... (@ 1:00 in the video. This was also possibly the best game of Dominik Hasek's career).

1. "Darren McCarty drops back with Niinimaa in front of him, McCarty draws, McCarty in, MCCARTY SCORES!!!"

That yzerman goal in 2nd OT is really bad by the goalie how can one let in a slapshot from outside the blueline and no screen, even though its a hard powerful shot.... lol

Ask Dan Cloutier about Lidstrom's goal from center ice in '02.

Because it was the most perfect shot you'll ever see in your life.

#5

Iggy in 3OT

#4

Leino's first.

#3

Hank's circus goal

#2

JR ends the series. I could give a f*** less about the series, about JR, about the goal. This goal's incredible simply because of Kapanen's badassitude. If he doesn't get off the ice, this goal doesn't happen.

If you're a Wings fan, and have been long enough or are old enough to have been watching this game, this has to be #1.

Gretzky had it, lost it. Yzerman picks it up, Yzerman moving, blue line chance, SCORE! Those words are forever ingrained in my memory.

at the least its the best goal ever as far as camera angle goes. from that classic angle you it looks like Casey may have been screened a little. in any case stevie couldnt have placed it any better. besides, so many classic goals from yesteryear look like bad goals today. my favorites aren't all the "best" goals, but Red Wings goals by definition are my favorites.

Long Shot Eliminates Longshots

some of the goals I would choose have already been mentioned; such as Datsyuk on Turco, Dats on the pass by Hank, Hanks spin-o-rama, McCarty against Philly, etc; so I'll pick some other favs of mine that haven't been mentioned:

5. Forsberg owns the Flames:

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&">
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

Look at the way he fights off the defender behind the net. That would have been an obvious penalty in today's game, but not back then. Perfect showcase of Forsberg's combination of strenght and skill.

4. Zetterberg against the Oilers in the 06 playoffs:

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&">
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

Might not look like that much of a goal to some, but the way he pokes the puck past the defender is just brilliant.

3. Datsyuk against Chicago last year:

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&">
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

I think that was the moment I realized what a damn all-star team we were last season.

2. Dan Cleary, game 7 against the Ducks:

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>&">
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

This is the best playoffs series I've ever watched. Not a beautiful goal by any means but it was just SO huge and one of my best moments ever watching hockey.

1. Hank's Cup winning goal in 08:

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&">
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

Funny, and it lead to the only Red Wings cup victory that I've been able to see live.

Most of mine have already been mentioned, but I also happen to like one that Steve Fisher scored for Ottawa against Turco where he popped the puck right over a sprawling Turco and shot it in from mid air. That took hand-eye coordination.

Another good goal was Pasha's no-look shot against Luongo when he was in Florida. He came around the goal, and without looking shot the puck right over Luongo's shoulder. I sat there and said, "Holy s***!"

Yeah, that was pretty badass.

I've got a nice one from this season. Never seen someone do 2 consecutive toe drags before.
