Guest ToMaToToWnWinGsFaN_24 Report post Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) hey i know its still not for another couple weeks..but lets face it...im excited...! and being a big hockey fan i know i wont miss it for the world. olympic hockey is the only event i really truly enjoy watching. i mean you have your other olympic events like alpine/downhill skiing, snowboarding, curling, speed skating, bobsledding, luge, figure skating...but nothing compares to the excitement that hockey brings. yes i am excited. especially with it being in my home country of canada. The last time the winter olympics were in canada i was only 4 years old. dont remember any of it . i know that if i make a poll about which event are you looking forward to the most, more the half of you would all pick hockey. so with that said: Besides hockey, which other event(s) are you gooing to tune in to watch? Which team do you think will be a suprise? which team do you think will ultimately choke? again, i know this is a little bit early for these questions but in all seriousness: you have to be a least a BIT excited? Russia My Favorite current Wing and some of my fave non-Wings (Mikko Koivu, Jussi Jokinen, Tuomo Ruutu) are from Finland, and more importantly I like their system and how everyone plays within it, kind of like the Red Army teams of the 70's, although less dominant offensively. Canada is simply too deep from top to bottom, I mean their 13th forward is likely going to be Jonathan Toews, that's some serious talent. Their only undoing may end up being the pressure of playing at home, if they can handle that, the rest shouldn't be too much for them to handle. I picked USA for most likely to surprise because on paper they look much better than any USA team I have ever seen, lots of young talent, and Ryan Miller has the ability to single-handedly steal games, could end up being the MVP of the tourney if they make the medal round. Also, Germany won't medal, they may not even make the playoffs, but they have a pretty decent lineup of NHLers, more than I realized, and they could make life difficult for Sweden and Finland in Group C. Russia is probably the most potent offensive team in the tourney, but they also have the most suspect defense and goaltending of any of the medal favorites. They are literally going to have to outgun everyone nto have a chance to win it all, but I don't think they will be able to do it, and they will end up a disappointing 5th or 6th IMO. I'm pretty unbiased, but I'd like to see one of the teams considered a little more of an outside chance (USA, Czech, Slovakia, Finland) have a really solid run of hockey and take gold, just up the Russia 'lol high end' and Canada 'lol we could have 3 olympic teams' talk. That's not to say I'll mind if either of those teams win, either. I'll enjoy the treat of hopefully good hockey. Which team do you think WILL win? Canada. Coaching, depth, and management. Which team do you think will be a suprise? If you can consider them a surprise, USA. They've got a roster full of meat and potatoes sort of players. which team do you think will ultimately choke? Russia. WJC and other affairs have left me concerned about their ability to play a good system and maintain cohesion. I hope they prove me wrong. Sweden I'll actually be in Vancouver and I am going to the first two Canada games, Sweden-Finland, Russia-Czech Republic, USA-Switzerland and a quarter-final game. Needless to say I am pumped.
