Stu Grimson The Lawyer

I knew that Grim was a lawyer, but I am sitting here in stunned bewilderment wondering if I am understanding correctly that GMR is one also. Can it be?

Just passed his bar exam iirc.

Why so stunned though? Or is that sarcasm?

I'm impressed. He does have a talent for debate. I just didn't see him as the lawyer type. I usually think seriousness and all-work-no-play types when I think of lawyers, or smarmy types like Bettman.

Hey! Bettman's a lawyer; maybe we can get GMR to replace him.

Or better yet, Grimson!

That's what I always thought before I entered law school. Also, you have to remember my age and that people in school now are younger than they've ever been.

It's true that there is a ton of work, but lawyers have more social events then pretty much anybody. You'd be surprised what kind of goofs you can meet in this profession at these social events. As long as they don't act that way during work time, I suppose it doesn't matter.

As for Bettman, I honestly didn't know that he was a lawyer. I thought he was just some former NBA exec who hated hockey.

I'm sure there are several of these examples, but off the top of my head, another guy would be Ken Dryden, who received his law degree after hockey (he actually shortened his career). He's now into politics. Obviously a little more high profile of a player than Mr. Grimson.

Another guy I know of since I used to watch the Oilers a lot in the 80's is Randy Gregg. He was actually working towards a medical degree before entering the NHL, but after he retired, he finished his degree and is now a practising medical doctor.

I work at a bar near a law school so we get a ton of law students that come in. They have an annual hockey game between Cooley Law and MSU Law. Last year Cooley was so in need of players that they had a girl out there on figure skates.

Funny stuff.

I know he shanked a lot of shots and I hated him on the point as much as anyone. But I knew I would miss Sammy. He was one of our keys in puck possession imo.

Grimson should have played the point on the powerplay.

That's why we didn't win the Cup in 1996. Bowman just misused him.
