dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 I don't want Leino because of the way he talks to the media about not having to go hard or battle in the corners. People that don't want to battle should not be on this team.

robb himself 143 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 (edited) we should really hold on to Leino until nexy year IMO. If he still struggles, then get rid of him...until then...get rid of Lebda, May, Meech Edited February 2, 2010 by robb himself
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Personally, I think Meech has played well enough consistently *since he's been played regularly* to garner being kept. If this conversation had been brought up 2 months ago, I wouldn't have batted an eye at the thought of losing Meech to waivers, but I don't see enough in Lebda (regardless of his playoff experience) to warrant the additional nearly $200,000 he makes when every penny is critical at this point. Since Meech has played regularly his level of play has become more consistent than Lebda's and while I understand the value of giving the nod to someone that's played in the pressure situation of the Finals the past 2 years, his level of play just isn't there. Leino just hasn't warranted consideration for keeping, Lebda can be moved, and while its nice to have a guy like May in the 13/14 hole, its not like he's going to play come playoff time anyway. With those three, you've got $1,932,000 in yearly salary off the books and all they need at this point *today* is $1,860,692, which would leave $71,308 as a cushion. Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Let me ask a question, because I am not clear on the salary cap. IF the Wings waive Leino and May and they clear waivers (which I expect them to do) does that still shed their cap # off the roster? If they clear waivers they can be sent to GR if I am not mistaken. If they somehow trade Lebda and Meech for future draft picks that would be great! This next week should be interesting to say the least!

If they clear waivers and go to GR, they will no longer count against our cap. I doubt Leino or Lebda would clear. May would probably clear and I could see him accepting the demotion to GR for the rest of the regular season and then coming back as a black ace for the playoffs (when there is no cap/roster limit). StormJH1 231 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 This. May has done that he's been asked to do...I hope he stays as well. Really? Wasn't he brought in to fight and prevent guys from being injured? Two of our best players went down within a week of signing him, and after a few early fights, he went about a month without fighting anyone, if I recall. I'm not a May hater--he actually was a lot less washed up than I thought he'd be, but what exactly does he offer going forward? I read your comment and thought "he's done what's he's been asked to do," so now would be a good time to move on.
Travis 576 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 It's nice to have an enforcer-type like May, strictly in the name of keeping goons of our guys' backs, but I'd hate to see the loss of skilled players for him. Despite what Mr. Khan says, I could easily imagine May playing in Grand Rapids if he clears waivers.

funguy21 2 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 The problem is they need to rid themself of like 2 million dollars May, Leino, and Meech or Lebda aren't enough to cover that much cap. we can put May on waivers thats 500 k gone. get rid of Leino, Meech , Williams, and Osgood. For an another goalie I would maybe try for Price in Montreal although its unlikely they will move him it seems they are doing really well with Halak and might be looking for a playoff goalie and maybe Leino or Williams. Then maybe try and trade for someone like Jussi Jokinen. I know he is the same cap hit as Williams but there some things I like about him over William. First off he is a big game performer just look at last years playoff run for Carolina. Is has a better plus/minus then William so he is more defensively aware then Williams is which is a plus. And I think Jokinen would fit in better then Williams does. Jokinen is also younger. If no trade can be made with Montreal I could see them going after Raycroft from Vancouver. I like the fact that Raycroft get hardly any playing time but when he gets a chance to play he plays well something Osgood doesn't have and Raycroft is younger. He hasn't had a fight in recent memory and, although he has had scoring chances lately, doesn't really contribute anything to the team (Abby does way more). GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Sorry, but May has been the least entertaining guy on the team in the last few months, id rather watch Leino lose every puck battle then watch May drift around and not deliver big hits and not fight night in and night out. I would usually bite my tongue before saying this, but May makes me miss Downey. I thought you hated hockey fights and considered May and Downey to be useless? Now all of a sudden you want to see more fights? Some of you guys are acting like hypocrites all of a sudden. May just hasn't had any takers recently. We haven't played too many teams who dress heavies that are willing to fight him. Really? Wasn't he brought in to fight and prevent guys from being injured? Two of our best players went down within a week of signing him, and after a few early fights, he went about a month without fighting anyone, if I recall. I read your comment and thought "he's done what's he's been asked to do," so now would be a good time to move on. None of our injuries were from cheap hits other than Kronwall's, in a game May was scratched in. As I said in the post above, he hadn't fought in a while because other teams don't dress enforcers against us anymore. Maybe May is doing his job based on that. I haven't seen anybody try any rough s*** against us for a while now.
funguy21 2 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 Osgood? Really? You're really going to go there in this thread? Yup I am really going there and I will tell you why. First off right now everyone is holding by the fact he is a big game goalie and he plays best in the playoffs there is not guarantee of that and he is showing no signs of being able to. This is our playoff right now and he has not shown up when called upon he is a liability now and should be let go. Secondly there seem to be a conflict between him and Babcock depending on how bad it is and if it causing trouble in the lineup one of them has to go and if there is a decision between coach of the decade and Osgood. Osgood will lose and be traded.

Osgood will lose and be traded. There is no trouble between Babs & Ozzie. Yeah Oz has said a couple times that he'd rather be playing just like any goaltender would. That's not a big deal in the least bit. Ozzie supports Howie and what the team does, end of story. And as far as getting rid of him? I don't care how inconsistent he's been, *IF* Howie doesn't get the job done in the playoffs and Ozzie isn't there? Yeah, I'd say we are pretty screwed. You're really going to put everything on Howard in his first season and get rid of someone who's been known to be great in the playoffs and who knows how to win? And FYI Ozzie's season doesn't tell how he'd be in the playoffs, IF called upon.
