Ericsson a healthy scratch tonight

Ericsson has 39 turnovers in 41 games played. By comparison Rafalski has 52 in 51 games played. Stuart has 40 in 55 games played, Lidstrom has 38 in 55 games and Kronwall has 22 in 25 games.

In terms of turnovers per game you can't call Ericsson the turnover king.

How many of those turnovers ended up in the back of the net? I'd be willing to bet that Ericsson has the most.

Don't let the numbers fool you, Ericsson is the undisputed turnover champion of this team.

Since we have to shave some salary I say we dump Lebda, Meech, Ericsson and Lilja and go after a solid bottom pair defenseman. Kindl/Janik can easily replace one of these guys.

Hopefully he responds. Although I would've liked to have seen Lebda/Janik. I think Meech is better than Lebda fundamentally but I think Lebda/Janik would be a better combo.

Anyone saying we should dump Ericsson though, is high and isn't thinking about the future. He's still developing, you don't just dump every kid who doesn't wow you instantly.

This is a strange game to choose to sit the kid. Y'all figfure there's any chance he's been traded or something is in the works?

Why waste time trying to develop a player that is almost 26 and doesn't even have the fundamentals down yet? He's not your standard rookie and I still haven't been convinced of his "potential" other than his obvious size advantage (which he rarely uses). At the moment, I'm totally convinced that he's a bust.

he did show potential e3arly in the playoffs last year, not that I'm saying you're wrong

i dunno about being a bust yet. he was* the very last pick in the draft and was playing forward at the time. he sometimes shows he really belongs but who knows if thats when he has Lids/Stuart/Rafalski/Kromwall to cover for his mistakes.

Maybe Babcock will play mostly Lidstrom/Rafalski and Kronwall/Stuart, with Lebda and Meech mixing in on occasion.

I Highly doubt that, we have another game tomorrow night, there is no way he is double shifting the D! I don't think that Big E's performance is the reason he is getting the night off, I think he is simply wore out. Thats what happeneds when you are out of the lineup for a period of time and then get back at it!

i dont have it in front of me but one would assume rafalski plays way more minutes against the other teams top lines on a night in, night out basis.

Yeah he does, but I can't be bothered to calculate the scaled turnover averages :P

 Yeah Kindl and Janik are better choices than those guys. Meech I'd agree on, but give me a break. Do you think it's a huge coincidence that Janik's played for a bunch of teams at the NHL level and can't manage to find a better job than AHL depth defenseman? And Kindl? You've got to be kidding me. Ericsson was a high end defensive d-man in GR. At the same time Kindl had the worst +/- in the entire AHL. Last year he struggled mightily with turnovers and defense in general. This year? He's still in the defensive dog house with GR fans constantly lamenting his terrible defensive play and inconsistent effort.

But sure, dump Ericsson and bring the guy up who can't play defense at the AHL level to replace him.

I think it's like pre-good Lilja when Lilja would turn the puck over at the worst and most inopportune times, kind of like Big rig has been doing lately.

or maybe he's just another product of the Wings system. When the system/style of play changes due to injuries...Guys like big E and Leino fall through the cracks..and others like Miller prosper. Call me crazy, but when players come here, they play how they are told to play...not how they actually play.

okay, im not serious...but, you never know?

Well that's not a very favourable comparison. :P

Lils did make some pretty memorable giveaways, would trip at the most inopportune times and just flat out look uncomfortable with the puck but I seriously don't remember that happening all too often throughout the course of his minutes per game. He was still defensively solid.

His give-aways in the 07 playoffs were pretty damn memorable. :ranting:

Meech was pretty good tonight, guys. Props where props are due.

And the break will do Ericsson good. Like Babcock said, sometimes in a non-stop grueling season things just pile up on a player. Especially for a young one, a break gives them a breather to stop the bad habits and think about things.

But it looks like he'll be back, Babs just said he doesn't think Kronwall will be back tomorrow night.
