Pre-Olympic Trade Deadline Talk

Quote from 2007 article:

"Just before the deadline, the Red Wings traded forward Shawn Matthias and two conditional draft picks to the Florida Panthers for Todd Bertuzzi. While Bertuzzi is currently injured, the Wings are hoping he will be ready to rumble before the calendars turn to April"

So apparently you can...

no, you cannot - there's a difference between being hurt and being on the IR - you cannot move a guy while he is on the IR...

exactly - a guy can be put back as active contractually to make a move and then just set as a healthy scratch after the move, so he still has time to complete healing - it is against the rules to move a guy when he's on the IR

Then he wouldn't be a "healthy" scratch. He'd be a scratch due to being injured.

Bertuzzi? No. He was injured when we acquired him. He had back surgery.

I said "healthy" scratch, not healthy scratch.

semantics... he's still on the active roster and a scratch, I was just trying to clarify between the points - the reason behind a guy being scratched has nothing to do with his contractual status... that was the point I was making

You're correct, it just sounded like an oxy-moron to me and didn't make much sense. I understand now .

wow... big contract, but still a good NHL player... when does his contract end? I'm sure PLENTY of teams would love to have him at 1.5 or less...

Dunno about that.......he hasn't put up 20 goals in a couple years and his contract doesn't expire until 2011. Not sure if any teams are gonna take a BIG 3mil risk.....
