From my understanding teams like Switzerland, Norway and Belarus qualify for the Olympics through tournaments. If that's the case, how do teams like Canada, Russia, and the USA qualify if all their players are in the NHL and the team is not competing in tournaments? Are they just automatically in or something?

well latvia has skrastins, bartulis, and ivanans in the nhl. the cool thing about their team this year is 12 of the players came from the same dynamo riga team.
