2010 Winter Olympics - Belarus vs Sweden (Group C)

Sweden will be very lucky to make it to the medal rounds...

They have not looked good at all.

Looking good in the group-stage is the kiss of death.

Besides, Canada won in shootout against Switzerland. USA didn't impress against Norway, Russia with all their offense couldn't score more than once against Slovakia.

I loved this game. A loss against Finland now and I think we'll get gold. That's pretty much how we did it in 2006. In 2002 we crushed Canada in the group stage and lost against Belarus in the quarters.

The Detroit Red Swedes need to have a couple heavy-duty extra long practices.

It would also be tres helpful if their coach put 'em together more. As in, like, WHY is the "Sharks" line having the positive effect it's having? Maybe because they even breathe in sync? HELLLEUUUOOOO?

The only possitive thing is that kronwall looks as he should, 3 "kronwalled" checks and some jump, and also looked a bit like a forward at times :o

The Zetterberg line looks like a disaster to me. You have an old Forsberg, a struggling Zetterberg and a seemingly way over his head Hornqvist.

I'm willing to bet they would have scored atleast a goal or two tonight if Franzen was there instead of Hornqvist. Forsberg and Z look good together to me, having some real good combinations. Hornqvist doesn't have the hockey intelligence to keep up though.

Hornqvist is without doubt the dumbest hockeyplayer in the olympics and should never be on a line with zetterberg and forsberg, franzen would be perfect but the coach just wont do his job, that is coaching...

A team with Sweden's talent putting Hornqvist and Weinhandl on the top two lines definitely raises some eyebrows.

Maybe they want better balance, but so far their firepower hasn't really shown up, even though they played the two weakest opponents they'll face.

BTW, Sweden has the best uniforms in the tournament. Seems like every other team wears some shade of red.

The one thing I did like about Sweden's play was that they really had the puck on a string at times. It was the first game I've seen these Olympics where a team possessed the puck really smoothly.

And of course, it had to be Denis LaRue that gave Zetterberg the retaliatory penalty. LaRue is still an ass, even if that was the right call.

Can't really watch a game by Sweden without giving my two cents on what the lines should be.

Sedin-Sedin-Alfredsson

Forsberg-Zetterberg-Franzen

Eriksson-Backstrom-Weinhandl

Modin-Pahlsson-Hornqvist

Lidstrom-Kronwall

Ohlund-Enstrom

Tallinder-Johansson

Murray-Oduya

I'd be willing to give the Forsberg-Zetterberg pairing one more shot but if it sputters in the next game then I'd switch Forsberg and Eriksson.

The sweden coach is by far the worst of CAN, RUS and SWE.

Yet he has an Olympic and WHC gold in the same year..

He has said that he'll play everyone equally to start things, even the 4th line got PP time today, to see who shows they want more ice-time and who shows they deserve less.

But if he doesn't start putting out real PP formations and playing the best guys more in the Finland game I don't know what to think.

Why do you deny it, he does NOTHING at all as far as coaching... he is lazy and he sucks... using LGW-language.

I'm fairly sure that for the game against Finland we will see some line changes, as well as dedicated PP and PK units. I would expect Franzén to switch with Hörnqvist. Alfredsson has been excellent (our best player so far), but he looks good with Bäckström, so Weinhandl may continue to play with the twins.

I doubt we'll see PÃ¥hlsson and Modin on the powerplay again, but they still played well. I take back any criticism I made of Gustafsson when I found out that he had picked Modin.

Johansson didn't look like Bambi on ice this game, which is a clear improvement.

Lundqvist should start every remaining game.

We looked better than we did against Germany, and hopefully this trend will continue against Finland, though it is a shame that our game against Finland won't be a do-or-die one for both sides, as those are always much more interesting.
