Thought I'd post a thread related to an actual Red Wing on the site...

What would you do?

I'd just wanna share a beer and hear a few of the untold stories.

Depends, is he picking up the tab?

Same answer from the other thread, most hockey players just don't seem like interesting people except of course all the fun their wealth brings. Ive hung out with a few rich/famous people, mostly musicians but a couple athletes too and frankly, Athletes are among the worst.

So really, it would be no different with partying with any random rich person, just he would probably have a bigger ego.

Well what makes a person interesting to you?

Its all pretty simple. As famous and busy as Zetterberg is, im sure he would want to do nothing but relax.

1.) I know Zetterberg loves a good steak on the grill, he said so him self on Red Wings live.

2.) I also know Zetterberg has frond quite fond of American football.

So what does that mean? Well, I would have a nice barbecue, watch some football, and relax on a nice Sunday. Who wouldn't want that? If I get him drunk enough maybe he will even stay the night.

I would decline and ask for Crosby.

Just kidding, I would probably try to get him wasted and make a bunch of random youtube videos...

I disagree, hockey players are much more approachable then normal athletes. I've ran into many players that just fly under the radar in a normal bar scene.

Well what makes that so?

They don't know better than to do stupid funny stuff.

Hanging out with poor people is way more fun than hanging out with rich people. I'd pass.

As this is very steryotypical, I am afraid that there is at least a little bit of truth behind this. On the bright side, hockey players arent just any rich people. They play hockey because they love it. The money is just a bonus, a very nice one.

Hockey players are rich in that they make a ton more scratch than you or I, but I'd rather hang out with say Nick or Hank than Kobe Bryant or Tom Brady. Hockey players aren't "wealthy" in that way that top athletes in other sports are. They don't make that kind of money. So while they're rich and famous, they aren't as spoiled by that money and fame as other people in their shoes would be.

From a detached ( aka, not actually interacting with the person ) perspective, its stuff like being a captain of industry, an elite level athlete or even as much as I hate to admit it, a move star or director.

Now, in terms of someone I actually want to spend time interacting with, well... thats being interesting. Either brilliant, creative, controversial or just simply interesting. This is something most athletes aren't.

That said, tons of money can buy tons of toys and I find expensive toys interesting... but even then, I would be spending a day with Zetterberg's toys.... ( Not a shot on Zetterberg by any means ). For a matter of reference, I would actually rather spend a day with John Tortorella than most hockey players, because he at least seems interesting.

I'm not stereotyping. I'm drawing a conclusion from my own personal experiences. Less fortunate people are quicker to entertain and have a good time. Most rich people I've been in a social setting with wait to be entertained.

They can be, I actually have hung out with some hockey players that were pure awesome, even players I can't stand like Tie Domi. Willing to do whatever you ask of them for charity while still being normal people. On the other hand, I have had a few encounters with Eric Lindros and a few like him and I can't imagine too many people worse.

Usually the lower line players are the ones you would have a good time with.

Steve Ott, Sean Avery, Jordan Tootoo etc. While you may hate them on the ice, chances are you would have a good time with them.

Well what made that so bad? Did he just have that way about him where he thought he was better than everyone else or...?

I've been lucky enough to have a chance to hang out with more than a few NHL'ers in a social setting... and I can say, beyond a shadow of a doubt... based on my experiences, that nine times out of ten, their non-famous sidekick/friend is always more cool and more fun to joke around with.

Keep the athlete... I'll hang with the entourage. :)

Actually, I agree with you completely!

On a similar, but unrelated experience(s), drummers are the coolest band members to hang out with.

That said, I can't imagine an NBA player not being a dick.
