Alex Burrows doesn't like Detroit

Canuck fan here. I want to commend the posters in this thread for not lowering themselves as to dis our city in retaliation. Alex Burrows is quite often an embarassment to Canuck fans and this is one of those times. We just wish he would STFU and do what he is good at. With his work ethic he should be an admired player in the NHL. Instead he acts like a little tool diving and whining all over the place. If he concentrated on just the game he would be better for it as a player and a person. I won't bother apologizing for him but I will tell you that any Canuck fan that says they are happy with getting the Wings in the 1st round are lying or heavily medicated. I'ld much rather meet you in the final or better yet not at all. If Luongo doesn't get his s*** together I think we're done in 5 or 6. If he miraculously finds his game, I like our chances. So here's to a great series and better yet here's to you guys getting 5th.

On behalf of all Red Wings fans, thank you for these kind words. And if it's any consolation, we really don't want him here either. No offense to you guys, but if we played you, that would mean we'd have finished sixth. And we don't really want that. So thank you. And for the record, I've never had a problem in downtown Detroit. I've walked downtown, been on the People Mover, gone to Tigers games and numerous Wings games, and I've never had a problem, and met nothing but nice people. That town isn't half as bad as people make it out to be. It's all in how you make it to be.

Really guys, what he said was that bad?

What's he supposed to say? "The Wings are too good, if we play them we're stuffed".

He could have left the city of detroit out of it and just focused on the red wings imo...

Might be closer to the truth... ;)

Here's an example of how an innocent comment can be made to look slimy, and why it's never smart to judge a single quote that for all anyone knows, was taken out of context.

Question: Which teams do you prefer to face in the playoffs, and specifcally, how do you feel about Detroit?

Burrows: We don't mind facing anyone, but as far as Detroit, the only thing I dislike is having to fly there and having to stay there, to have to spend a couple of days in that city.

Question: Are you saying that you don't like the city of Detroit?

Burrows: Not at all. My English isn't always good, sorry. I'm saying that Detroit is far away and I don't like all the travel back and forth to the same city like what goes on in the playoffs. It's different than a road-trip because there are usually shorter distances between cities on the road and I don't adjust well to big time zone changes.

With the exception of the offending Burrows quote, that's totally made-up by me, but it could easily be a set of true quotes that no one in the world would have a problem with. Context; it's not in the Detroit News "article", and should therefore be suspect..

I hope Sammy takes multiple shots to Burrows' foot for that comment about the city.

Okay, I'll just go with the flow because it appears everyone here pretty much just reads the opening comment and then makes a post at the end.....

It would of been worse if he lied, said Detroit is a nice city and was then judged as insane -- wouldn't it?

Burrows is scared to face the Red Wings that's why he is making doucher comments and taking shots at the city. He has no past series to bring up which he can look to so all he can do is make bonehead remarks.

He worried he very worried.

I don't think this is really a big deal. Every opposing player doesn't have to worship the Wings.

And lets be honest, how many people think, "Great, I get to stay in Detroit!"

I can think of worse places than Detroit. Trust me, in my travels I've been to some places I never want to go back to.

How many big cities (500,000+ population) do you know of that have casino resorts?

Cleveland isn't a pretty sight.

No offense, but Raleigh and Tampa are both dumps. I hated them both. And Little Rock too.

Raleigh is a gorgeous city. Since moving here to NC, I've been there dozens of times. Any urban area is going to have its hellholes, Chicago has a couple and that's my hometown. That doesn't mean the whole of the city is an armpit.

I think the Cleve is pretty alright.

A part from a few bad Detroit experiences I can safely say I don't mind the city of Detroit at all. No different than any large city really... just with the scales tipped against it, what with rampant unemployment and stuff.

What's so bad with Detroit? Have I watched too many documentary's of detroit from the 60's? and not realised that maybe the movie 8-mile with eminem is more closer to the truth?

Any of you actually live in Detroit, in the city not the suburbs...I do and I don't like it. Once I get enough money I am out of this s***ty city. Love the Wings hate the city

Yep, I lived near West Chicago/Southfield until about 7 years ago. The whole area is just helpless and awful. I wouldn't wish anyone to live like that. Luckily the worst thing to happen to me was just a couple cars stolen and one armed robbery.
