MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 wow...after all he did, couldn't afford him or what? didn't see this coming. Remember, he asked for a trade at one point in the season. Plus, he was reportedly pissed off that the Habs took his starting job away as soon as they could in the playoffs when he faltered a little against Washington. Could simply be a case of Halak telling them he wasn't going to sign with them.
Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) Good. I was just thinking the division was too easy. Edited June 17, 2010 by Octopus's Garden

HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Solid goaltending with every Central team now. Well, that team in Chicago in my mind still has a problem but they have that one trophy too. 1 sputman reacted to this
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Damn, I like Halak too. Blues just got better, no doubt.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 is he a RFA this year or next year? He's an RFA this year. Both he and Price are set to be RFA's, so Montreal had a decision to make.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 is he a RFA this year or next year? I believe he's a RFA as of July 1.
HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Mindfly's boy Price might not have to get traded to the Wings for Howard and an autographed picture of Hank's wife now! 1 13dangledangle reacted to this

Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Haha. Gotta laugh at some Montreal fans hoping for Oshie, Johnson or Backes in return.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Seriously - who are these 2 guys?...I've never heard of them. Eller was a 2007 1st round pick...don't know much about Schultz other than he is the younger (shorter) brother of Jeff Schultz.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Habs get Lars Eller & Ian Schultz. Are these high-end prospects? They better be if they came in for Halak... I'm shocked they chose Price over him. How much is potential worth when your playoff MVP has to be traded to allow it to develop further?
Original-Six 254 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Remember, he asked for a trade at one point in the season. Only because he wanted to be a starter. Habs should of kept him over Price imo. He outplayed Price pretty much every time he played, but then again who knows what went on behind the scenes.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Two decent prospects for Halak, congrats Montreal, I'd be very surprised if you make the playoffs with Price as the starter all season.
The Secret 304 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Bienvenue au la Belle Province.... Rumour has it they traded Halak because he couldn't speak french and he didnt like poutine!

How much is potential worth when your playoff MVP has to be traded to allow it to develop further? Not exactly. Eller projects to be a good top-six forward with good two-way play. Schultz is a power-forward, so his offensive development will determine if he becomes a top-six forward or a third/forth-line grinder.
henrik40 76 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 There has to be something going on here. Halak must have not wanted to stay in Montreal and maybe someone in the Blues organization (and probably other teams) knew this. Montreal didn't have much to bargain with if Halak had made it clear he wasn't going to re-sign with them. On the bright side, my Price jersey isn't out of date... for now. Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Price had little trading value right now. They would've got basically nothing out of him. He still has great potential though and fits for the Canadiens mould. Halak is obviously the better goalie at the moment, but the trade has other factors as well. Original-Six 254 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 This is kinda funny seeing how all the Habs fans were going crazy for Halak thinking he was the second coming of Roy or something. At least we get to watch another season of Montreal taunting and booing Price.

How much is potential worth when your playoff MVP has to be traded to allow it to develop further? Lars Eller should pan out to be a vFlip with slightly better scoring and slightly worse defense. Ian Schultz seems like a power forward/ Grinder that's a third line/second line tweener, depending on if he can reach his potential. This kid is tough too, and enjoys a good scrap. (Cue the fight lovers that say we should have traded Howard and made this deal) lol
