We drafted some size this draft which I like but this guy could develop into a real solid 3rdline center and I don't see anyone talking about it. He's 6'4, one of our, if not the biggest forward in the system and seems like he uses it. He led his team in hits last year, didn't put up a huge number of them but still led his squad. Also said he loves blocking shots etc.

Seems like a heart and soul type guy, once he grows into that 6'4 frame (I read he was drafted to juniors at 5'11 and grew to 6'4) since he hasn't had much time to yet, he could be a physical force, he'll probably be well over 200 pounds when he comes to the NHL and maybe get a bit meaner since he wants to find a niche in the NHL.

He was good enough to play in the top prospects game, and had 3 fights too boot last year.

I really like this pick, what do you guys think about him?

Definately my favourite pick behind Sheahan. Don't really know too much about him, but I noticed his 3 fights last year as well

His size will definately be of use he can do well in the AHL to make it to the NHL. Hopefully the next Todd Bertuzzi (the pre-Moore Bertuzzi) if I can be so bold as to make such a comparison!

I don't think pre moore bert is likely here. Maybe more so for Sheahan then this guy.

I'm thinking this guy might end up like a bigger version of Abdelkader really. Both were physical in their draft year but I don't think Abby was regarded as big of a hitter as he is today(could be wrong) and both played in not as physical leagues in College and the Q. Now I expect as Aubry grows into his body more, he'll be throwing the weight more since he is already physical, maybe fight a bit more and be strong on the PK etc.

I'm thinking this guy is going to have to get meaner to make the NHL, I'm saying 5 fights next year as a bigger, heavier guy. I also like that he is a very strong skater.

Another player Detroit needs in their system, and ultimately, on the Red Wings. It sounds like he was a small ball-of-hate, then grew 8-inches in like a year. And now he's a big ball-of-hate. He seems to have a lot of potential.

I'm excited about his size, and seemingly his willigness to use his size to hit, but the lack of offence is a pretty decent concern. It could come this season as he grows into his body, but I'm going to reserve judgment on this one for a while.

I just found out something interesting about this guy as well. He had 125 hits last season which is pretty solid. BUT noone else on his team had more then 69. He played on a team with a bunch of ******* is basically what I'm getting from this. You put him on an intense team with guys to back him and throw their weight a bit and I bet his hit totals go up quite a bit. Wait for him to be in the AHL and he'll have to use hi size or he'll be eaten alive.

OR you put him on team with other guys that hit and he backs off because he is not the only one that has to do it all on his own.

I don't think so. 125 hits is enough that you can say he is a pretty physical player. When you put a physical player on a physical team they next to never become less physical, they usually thrive.

Notice how Ericcson in the AHL with a tougher team and Abdelkader with a tougher team had more fights. The whole Philly hockey team is the same way. Tougher teams make players tougher not softer.

I must say Wings are doing a great job at filling all areas. They've got some high skilled guys (Tatar, Nyquist, Pulkkinen, Jarnkrok), some gritty guys who can score (Farraro, Coetzee, Mursak, Nestrasil, Sheahan), some grit and size in LA Aubry, Callahan*, Andersson, and Raedeke. Lets look at the Defense. Smith! Almqvist, Nicastro, Jensen, Fournier. What about hard hitting bulldozer d-men? Yup, we have them too! Lashoff, and maybe Kolosov too.

I don't know, but our prospect pool looks pretty complete for not having any top 10 picks since... well, since 1990/91.

I haven't seen ferarro play, but i have seen mursak and he is not a "gritty guy who can score" hes a high skilled, quick player with great hands. When I see him play in GR its hilarious, because he is around the same speed as helm but can pull of the dekes that helm tries to do at top speed; he also has great awareness and I remember a few games last year where he deftly passed the puck to a player and the player didn't even see it coming and completely whiffed on it.

I'm really excited about those potential top-6 players...what are the chances they all play in GR for a year?

Tatar-Nyqvist-Jarnkrok

Mursak-Sheahan-Ferarro

I haven't watch him play other than some YT clips. But I read his scouting report at RWC:

http://www.redwingscentral.com/prospects/mursak.php

Competitive ... Isn't afraid to get his nose dirty

I don't know how accurate RWC is... So I trust what you say as you have watched him play. Still exciting prospect pool nonetheless.

Someone should start a Jarnkrok thread. I'm excited about his hype... but not sure if it's 'over hype'. I'm surprised you didn't include Pulkkinen onthe first line with Tatar and Nyqvist. Jarnkrok must be even more special than I currently know.

All the Swedes on HF Boards have serious hard ons for Jarnkrok is that means anything.

Have you seen him play recently or something? I think he's gotten a lot better.

Yes it was obvious in Frolunda this season...

And we don't necessarily need a bunch of fighters... just guys that will hit, hit, hit and hit some more. Having a few willing fighers is all you need. But everyone has to be willing to hit the hell out of the other team.

We have several guys who we know can fight, it all comes down to if they will. Im talking Abdelkader, Bert, Ericsson, Eaves, Cleary, and maybe this 4th line or 6th defenseman guy that keeps being brought up.

Yeah thats the what I mean. Physical players will see other guys making big hits and want to join in and not be out done. If this Aubry guy is given time to fill out his playing weight will be somewhere around 215 pounds at least I would think, he could be a wrecking ball. If he starts plastering guys he will probably end up fighting more too. Kinda like Jean Francois Jaques in Edmonton or whatever his name is.

The guy has grown so ridiculously fast who knows if he's even done yet, he might still grow an inch. Filling a bottom 6 with guys his size that will hit would make our bottom 6 very effective.
