Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 3, 2010 Winchester is now off that list. If Lilja goes, I'd like to see Kenny bring in either Sutton or Exelby. Do you seriously think that Sutton is affordable? He'll get at least $2m. Exelby is god-awful. He is one-dimensional in the extreme, and he was frequently scratched in Toronto last season.

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 I'd be happy with Janik playing 6th defenseman as well.Signing another rugged day is not necessarily a need,in my opinion.I think Janik can do the job.
Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted July 4, 2010 Brendan Witt is tough as nails. I didn't see too many Isles games though so I don't know if he is washed up or not. I'd sign him for sure if it's for less than 1 mil.
Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 The Islanders placed him on waivers last year.I'm sure he'll sign for under a mil.Rugged, veteran defenseman.Wouldn't mind him in Detroit.
WorkingOvertime 536 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 I'd be happy with Janik playing 6th defenseman as well.Signing another rugged day is not necessarily a need,in my opinion.I think Janik can do the job. I agree. Janik looked competent during his time with the Wings last year. As for waiting until the deadline, that doesn't make much sense when it comes to a tough-guy. He would be needed for the bulk of the season (and probably not as much during the playoffs) to keep the flies off our skilled players.

redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 I'm still hoping for Jared Boll.Drew Miller for Jared Boll, straight up. i do recall an article with kenny stating he would try to sign and enforcer or trade for one. With rittola/eaves and miller lying around there are definitely some assets here that could fetch something in a trade. with the ridiculous amount of money being given out to 4th liners I could see the trade route being a possibility. Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 I think Eaves has to be a lock for our roster next year. He's a decent all-around player.I think Miller is the odd one out,and maybe with the cluster of defensemen we have,we can piece Meech in as a part of the deal to get Boll. Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted July 4, 2010 Awesome hit by Witt. The Wings could use some more of that. Hopefully Kronwall can dish out some more of those as well.
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 I like how fast McKee came over too.. He'd be a solid addition as our 6th d-man and doesn't require a lot of cap (under a mil). McKee and Asham... call it a day. If Asham is too rich, then Modano under a mil. Done and done. Let Meech go, Let Miller go. We have TOO many forwards right now. I'd hate to not even give Ritola a chance to play. So maybe Modano is a bit too much to worry about trying to get, but how do you pass up a guy of that caliber, for that cheap, and he'll for certain bolster our 3rd line... Anyway, I think this week will shed some light on things.
LeftWinger 4,963 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) everyone has their wish list and some people agree and some people don't. In this very slow off season for the Wings who just look to add veteran grit and some secondary scoring have already welcomed Hudler back to add (hopefully) 30-40 goals. Big Bert should again get near or just over 20, as will Holmstrom, and Nick, well, Nick will be Nick... They need to decide on their RFA's, Helm and Abby are no doubt coming back, Miller and Eaves are questions, if Holland already offered them all contracts, what is the hold up? I am sure he did not low ball Helm or Abby, but he prolly tried to scale back on Eaves and Miller, anyway, my wish is (and this is just me) sign Modano and Aaron Ward for a combined less than $2M and spend $3M on your remaining three of the four RFA's. Are they what we need to make us the team to beat? Prolly not, but they both add veteran leadership and even at 37 years old, Ward still plays with some snarl, and Modano can net 10-20 goals along with adding some help on the power-play. It's obvious we aren't making a big UFA splash, but these two can come in here, add depth and scoring to the bottom 6 and 5-6 spot on D, and they could be the little spark we need, along with Hudler adding his scoring to put us that much closer to Stanley... on a seperate note, per TSN, I guess Kovalchuk has said no to LA. Hmmm, wonder what the offer was... Edited July 4, 2010 by LeftWinger

I completely agree with you LeftWinger. I think that we will be as good as any team in the Western Conference just because we'll be one of the more balanced teams. I haven't seen Ward play too much since he left, but he has a held a job everywhere he's gone and not been sent down or any crap like that, so that's good. I'd go with Ward or McKee at this point. Ward would probably like to come back and play with the remaining guys and he doesn't have to worry about being in Bowman's doghouse, although Babs has a pretty strict demeanor too.... I really think we should let Miller walk. I'd like to keep Eaves as I believe he can be a pretty solid force for us and can play 3rd line and put up points when properly utilized, not a lot, but you know - 10-15 goals.... This is a good gameplan. 1 LeftWinger reacted to this
funguy21 2 Report post Posted July 5, 2010 I would like to see us get Modano and keep Eaves, Helm, and Abdelkader. Eaves has scoring potential he played really well when he first started in Ottawa and giving the right players around him he can get a few extra points aswell. I would like to see Miller back alswo but that probably won't happen they will need to let go of someone. This is the way i would like to see the lineup set up Filpula-Datsyuk-Hudler Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi Holmstrom-Modano-Cleary Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves Draper-Ritola This lineup will never be put on to ice because Holmstrom will always be on the top line. I would like Holmstrom on the third line simply to add scoring to the third line. Holsmtrom plays best infront of the net it seem better he plays with some shooters that can just get the puck on the net for a deflection. If there was ever a critizism of the top line for the Wings it would be the lack of skill that Holmstrom brings to the line. You would always see pav make a break out pass to Holmstrom who never had the skill to keep the play going. I know the top line has alot of set up skill and lacks some shooting skill on it but Datsyuk, Filpula and Hudler all can score quality goals. Alot of people say Datsyuk is not a natural scorer but all you need to do is look at most of his goals they are very well placed and are goal scorers goals. I think if we load the top line with skilled players we might be able to catch some of what the Wings had in the 08 playoffs between Pav and Zetterberg. Zetterberg, Bertuzzi, and Franzen seemed to have some chemistry in the playoff would like to see more of it. And the fourth line would add a tone of energy. On defense I don't think we need much alteration our third pairing would be the weakest. However I think Ericsson will have a much better season since he played much better the last few weeks of the season and in the playoffs. If we can find a cheap 6th dmen i would be great but I think we be solid even with out that addition. Here what i would like to see. Lidstrom-Rafalski Stuart-Kronwall Ericsson-Kindl Janik I would try Kindl out first if we did not get his game together I would go with Janik he is solid defensively. For the Goalies I would Think that Howard gets the start and Osgood as backup. However I suspect that you will see Osgood starting in net by the third game just to see what he has to offer. Howard will start the first two games of the season then Osgood will most likely start the following two. I believe Osgood will be walking a thin line in Detroit. If I had to predict I can see MacDonald the back up to Howard by December. I personally think Osgood has played his best hockey and will have similar problem this season as last. Like I said by December they will probably waive him.

Like I said by December they will probably waive him. There is rather a simple equation to the lines that Babcock has already put out there and it goes like this: Sniper, Net-front/grinder, Playmaker Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom (Datsyuk and Z both have good shots and both can be strong playmakers while Holmstrom is the net front/grinder type player) Franzen - Filppula - Bertuzzi (Babcock has already taught Bert to be that net front guy and it worked out pretty well last season, Filppula is the playmaker and Franzen has the shot and can also play in traffic too) Hudler - Modano - Cleary (Hudler has the shot, Modano is more of playmaker but still has a good shot too, and Cleary is the net-front guy) Helm - Abdelkader - Eaves (Being our 4th line, this is more of an energy line anyway, but you could make a justification that Eaves has the shot, Abdelkader is the net front guy, and Helm can put some plays together - but pretty much they're all grinders) Draper would be our 13th forward in my scenario, I just don't understand how else Babs does it without screwing the kids over... Even with Modano out, you still have the possibility of Miller and Ritola and wouldn't you rather see what they can do then have Draper in there? I mean Draper didn't do much at all half of the season, hell, he didn't even take faceoffs int he playoffs, so what's the point of keeping him? But I know we're loyal. Yes some guys got big contracts but its annoying to see guys that fit exactly what we need going cheap in free agency. Konopka goes for 600K I don't think that is too much of a financial risk to a GM who has said he wants toughess. Tim Jackman goes for 550K and also fits what we need perfectly but we couldn't get a deal done for some reason. Maybe he intends to trade guys like Miller and Meech for someone like Boll who hasnt resigned yet (fingers crossed) but if he says al this toughness stuff then says he couldn't find anyone tough to fit under the cap I won't be happy at all. I don't wanna go into this season without getting a little grittier in the bottom
