martyrme19 73 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 I'm only starting this because everyone is now wondering who will be moved before the start of the season (Eaves, Miller, Ritola, Meech etc). In no way am I saying I can bet my house on it, but Miller's dad, Dean, owns a store here in East Lansing. I was talking to him and he told me that the Red Wings brass gave Drewthe green light to purchase a house - indicating that they plan on keeping him around for a little while. So I guess take it for what its worth, but you can use this bit of info when speculating who you think the red wings are going to package together to snag Rick Nash. Rivalred 630 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 I do not see Miller doing anywhere either. Only reason why I say this is because he is a strong 2-way player and an excellent PKer. Helm replaces Draper Miller replaces Maltby My concern is the thread and article on mlive on how Kronner's knee is still bothering him. With Salei replacing Lilja, IF something may happen (and the Wings need to treat it as if it will in my eyes), a backup plan (aka player who can fill his role) needs to be ironed out as well. titanium2 867 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Yeah but I don't know if I see him as a reserve forward after last year. I would think he wants to advance his career right?

Does Abdelkader replace McCarty? I mean really....the 3 of them do make one hell of a grind line. Though I think Abby has a ways to go before he matches McCarty's toughness. I'm not a capologist though, I don't even know if that would be possible. Edited August 23, 2010 by Broken

Guest mindfly Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Yep Ritola would most definitely clear waivers.
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Not sure who will be missed. I'm hoping it's not Miller as he's a personal favorite of the bunch. 2 Frozen-Man and Vladifan reacted to this

I get the feeling that the Wings want to hang on to Miller. Eaves gets a lot of credit for our PK last season and deservedly so, but the PK didn't REALLY start clicking until Miller got on board. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 I like Drew Miller, but not at the expense of losing Ritola already.
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Yep Ritola would most definitely clear waivers. I wouldn't say definitely. 50/50 maybe more like it. I wouldn't risk it just to save Miller, but I wouldn't be that upset about it either, even if we did lose him.

MulesWillFly93 199 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) Ritola can go to GR technically. It's times like these I wish our AHL team was based out of Hell, MI instead of GR. So many missed opportunities... Back on track...I hope Ritola can just hang on for one more season in GR; I really don't want to lose him, but I like Miller. I, too, am a fan of that Miller-Abdelkader-Eaves line. Hey...I had all this straight for a while, but now I'm confused again: is the cap the problem here, or is it that we have too many forwards? Like, say, if we get rid of Meech, is that going to solve the problem, or will we still need to boot off a forward? EDIT: never mind, just figured it out...still gotta move a second guy besides Meech, right? Ok, I'm going to make the hard decision here and say keep Miller. I hope I'm right. Glad I'm not Kenny. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Yep Ritola would most definitely clear waivers. NO way he clears waivers. Given how light his cap hit is he's too attractive for every single team in the NHL to pass up. 1 under_par_00 reacted to this
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Obviously if we could just lose Meech, that would be ideal. I dont think that will be enough. I've really always thought of Eaves and Miller as more or less interchangeable. Of the two, I prefer Eaves. But if either one leaves I'm not gonna be crushed. I really don't want to lose Ritola. I don't like how we would give away unproven prospects just to retain a cheap 4th liner.

EDIT: never mind, just figured it out...still gotta move a second guy besides Meech, right? Ok, I'm going to make the hard decision here and say keep Miller. I hope I'm right. Glad I'm not Kenny. It completely depends on what space Kenny's comfortable with. He's stated in the past he'd like around $500k for call-ups, and given the Wings could potentially owe $850k worth of bonuses either at the end of this year, next year or a combination of the two, there's a few scenarios. To make things easy, lets assume both Modo and Salei hit their milestones. Given Abby's cap hit is $787,000 per that puts the Wings at a Cap Payroll of $60,174,877 (or $774,877 over the cap). The Wings could choose to pay out potential bonuses met next year at the expense of that year's Cap. Now keep in mind Kenny can do any combination of moves he feels like up to the 10% overage and still ice a team, but that overage will affect next years team cap. Nah it's just on this board, he hasn't shown anything at nhl level, no gm would pick him up. I 100% disagree. Given his cap hit and potential he would absolutely be picked up. Plus given Detroit's reputation for drafting well, he'll get a good look from clubs simply because he's affiliated with the Wings. esteef

Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Nah it's just on this board, he hasn't shown anything at nhl level, no gm would pick him up. Quincey hadn't really shown anything in the NHL either. Almost league minumum salary for 3 years. This year on a two-way deal. Been in the Wings system for a few years. Looks to have a little potential... Not like there's much to lose by taking him, for some teams at least. Plenty of teams have borderline NHLers on the 4th line, plenty of cap space, and often players still waiver exempt they could move to make room for him (or just players they'd be willing to lose). And it only takes one interested team for us to lose him. I think if anything it's a little optimistic to think there'd only be a 50% chance that one GM out of 29 might be interested in him. A young forward from Sweden drafted by the Wings being waived? I dont think he makes it. I would say 100% we would lose him to waivers. He is a Swede drafted by the Wings, who shows a promising 2-way game. He is signed for 3 years at $5xx 000. How could you not pick him up for free if you are the GM of TAMPA or some other random s*** team??? Guaranteed we lose him to waivers, why not waive Draper and his $1.5mil caphit instead? Guest mindfly Report post Posted August 23, 2010 If he get waived before the season (after training camp) he'll be fine...odds are against Ritola becoming another Bruzgalov, Quincey, Peverley situation.

If he get waived before the season (after training camp) he'll be fine...odds are against Ritola becoming another Bruzgalov, Quincey, Peverley situation. He doesn't have to be a Bryz or Quincey. Again, it only takes one GM with a less than stellar lineup to take him. Nothing really to lose for them.
