Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 Exactly what has he done to merit a reputation for being "dirty"? Playing for the Flyers? Just search youtube. He's dirty, but since he can put up points and isn't on every sports network, he doesn't get eyeballed.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 I'm actually surprised he didn't get more, with the whole "using the stick as a weapon" thing. Wait a second, this is Colin Campbell we're talking about. Never mind. 1 Konnan511 reacted to this
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 Third career suspension, so the League's so-called "repeat offender rule" would have come into play. He's lucky.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 I await the day when anyone from any other team gets suspended for mugging a Red Wing. I hope you're comfy, you'll be waiting a while.
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 They should of let Dipietro fight, maybe he would of been "injured" for the rest of the year.
Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 Didn't briere have a huge cheap shot on another player back when he was in buffalo? I seem to remember him cranking someone from behind or something Edit.. Nvm he got cranked from behind by Ovechkin, I got my players mixed up nope you are correct.. he retaliated the hit... and speared Ovechkin in the "Fig Leaves". I posted the video on the first page with his other suspension... crash

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 He will forfeit over $250K in his absence. That's a nice chunk of change, even for a multi-millionaire.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 considering the NHL way of handling suspensions - way too many. 1 game is the most with usual NHL policy. considering Briere's record and the fact that he's one of top league players plus has some history of dishing unnecessary hit - I'm glad someone had balls to hand this much punishment. if only the league kept handling the matter like that... I think those suspensions will come in bunches until All Star break. NHL decided to teach players to play with less edge and it usually takes those 3-4 months to have the message received. but come playoff run and playoffs itself - expect a lot of old sh*t to come back and escape unseen. perhaps less than last season, but it's still going to be good ol' hockey. overall, I agree with the league on the policy. it really got too bad last season and it's time to do something about this business. there is a difference between hard hits and head hunting and I'm glad this is handled, even if the handling is not perfect... stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 But the blindside rule wasn't in affect when that hit occured right? Let me preface what I'm about to say by openly admitting that I know that this makes me a bad person and one should never take pleasure in injuries, but... I will openly cheer, without shame, if anyone ever takes a run/cheap-shot at Cooke which results in the end of his career. Cooke is EXACTLY the type of player the game needs to get rid of - no respect for his fellow player or the game, and a abortion of a human being to boot. 4 esteef, titanium2, stevieisthebest and 1 other reacted to this

I don't want his career ended, everyone deserves to be in a profession they enjoy unless you're one of those truly bad people out there doing really bad things. I just want to see someone catch him with his head down and hit him in the mouth with an elbow removing his teeth and giving him a Lilja concussion

I won't wish upon him a career ending injury, but I certainly wouldn't shed a tear if he's hit in the exact same manner that he laid upon Savard. I don't see Briere as a dirty player. He's certainly not the punk type like a Cooke or a Perry. Has he done stuff in the past that he shouldn't have? Yes. Does he have a reputation for being a dirty goon? If he does, he shouldn't. Fine, can we compromise - A career crippling injury, resulting in a minimum of 50 games missed? I don't think Savard will ever be the player he was again...
