Grim 5 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 wasn't this a contract for a 35+ year old? so... won't the Wings be on the hook capwise if Modano retires? I think Ken is going to keep his spot regardless.

DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 True. But how about this... Nashville may not be contenders, so maybe we can get Suter off their hands for Hudler/Kindl and picks. Suter would be awesome here, and pair him up with Rafi. Our defense just went from good to the f*&*ing awesome. Plus we will have the chance to re-sign him, which would make the Lidstrom's retirement sting less. well i didnt think of that and to be honest i'd like to see Suter here and i think he would be a good fit, i'm just worried about giving up young talent and then 2 or 3 years down the road he becomes a star. its just my opinion but i would have to agree i'd like to see suter in a wings uniform

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 I dont get why people say no we dont replace him we're deep enough. If we have the cap space from him to use at the deadline then why the hell wouldn't we? We could use that 1.2 plus Hudler, picks, Kindl or whatever else to get a solid contributor. Why not arm ourselves for along post season instead of simply saying well we lost our third line center but we dont really need to be that much better to win probably? I say we go after Dustin Penner. He's got 15 points in 23 games with the bottom-dwelling Oilers, who are shopping him around. Put him on the 3rd line with Cleary and Abdelkader/Eaves and that's a good, hard working 3rd line. He's got the playoff experience and would be a nice pickup at the deadline, or even sooner. He's only 28 years old, so if the trade proves beneficial for Detroit and he plays well, maybe we can try to hang on to him for a while.

That would be quite awesome if his contract was much less than a 4.25 mil cap hit. Unfortunately... Well, you know.

I think Ken is going to keep his spot regardless. I think that only applies to multi-year contracts. That would be quite awesome if his contract was much less than a 4.25 mil cap hit. Unfortunately... Well, you know. Hudler+Kindl at the trade deadline. Sounds good. At the trade deadline, Penner will have less than a 1mil cap hit. So if Modano retires we could just send prospects their way.

Re-sign Lidstrom next year for $4 million and keep Penner. That would be sick.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) If Modano is done for the year we'll have a chance to pick up a solid player at the deadline if we chose to do so. Edited December 1, 2010 by 10 Minute Misconduct

Travis 576 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 It's encourage to see him say that he wants to be back around the Joe as soon as possible and to read the positive things he said about the team boosting his morale. I feel like that's something he missed in Dallas and much less concerned about him being bummed about this than those who are comparing it to his 'moods'. henrik40 76 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 I knew a guy who knew a guy who had his hand cut off and they sewed it back on. He was a great hockey player and now he has to shoot with the other hand. He really sucks now. It doesn't look good for Mo. The experts say that it will be AT LEAST 2 months but I think that it will be UPTO 6 years before he can play hockey again... just sayin.... Thank you. I don't get why people are trying to compare Modano's injury to guys who had a similar injury in the juniors or in their beer league. Modano has some of the best doctors and rehab physicians at his disposal, so the outcome will likely be much different.
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 This board just makes me laugh sometimes... how people still don't understand the cap world, the CBA and over 35 contracts blows my mind when they claim to be "die-hards" Back to the topic at hand, it is very discouraging due to the extent of the injury, but as many others have stated, we probably shouldn't get into the speculation game... lets see where we're at in 2 months + some rehab first... furthermore, we don't need to make any moves - Modano was an addition, not a necessity, we can (and are doing quite well) roll with what we have

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted December 1, 2010 6 years, or 6 months? I will agree with ya if you meant 6 months...Any damage to the tendon is bad enough, but adding some "minor" nerve damage can really hinder the chance of his return. Penner could be a great addition - just as long as we move a few bodies (primarily Hudler) to help clear cap space...Dunno if Edmonton wants Hudler - they're probably better off keeping Penner instead Yeah his trade value decreases with every game, so im not sure who would be interested..
