Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) NHL.com NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will discuss the salary cap and League revenues with the Board members during this meeting, as well. Although there have not been any official statements, multiple media outlets have reported League revenues are up, and as a result the salary cap will rise from its current $59.4 million. The increase could be as much as $2 million, according to reports. Wings will have ~17mil in cap space next year. 23 man roster UFA: Modano, Draper, Eaves, Miller, Lidstrom, Salei, Ericsson, Osgood, Howard RFA: None Minors/Current RFAs*: UFA: Joey MacDonald, Meech. RFA: Thomas McCollum, Jordan Pearce, Dick Axelsson, Logan Pyett, Emmerton, Mursak, Tardiff, Pare, Jordan Owens, Brian Lashoff, Brent Raedeke, Ilari Filppula, Sergei Kolosov, Daniel Larsson*, Ryno*, Evan McGrath*, Ryan Oulahen* I think we replace Hudler with HTD by trading Hudler at the deadline this year or at the Draft, Modano with Emmerton, and Miller with Mursak. Replace Salei with Kindl. Re-sign Lidstrom to a lifetime deal. Let Ozzie retire a Wing. Have Larsson come back-up Howie. Re-sign Big E and Eaves. So what's the plan LGW? InKennyWeTrust 126 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 I gave Lidstrom 7M, Big Rig 1.5M, and Jimmeh 1.5M, Eaves a raise. I didn't have any scratches, and came out with 4+M in cap space. I figure that we could add 1-2M in cap space depending on what we sign those players to. Add a great stay at home d-man?

Shaman 713 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 NHL.com Wings will have ~20mil in cap space next year. 23 man roster UFA: Hudler, Modano, Draper, Eaves, Miller, Lidstrom, Salei, Ericsson, Osgood, Howard RFA: None Minors/Current RFAs*: UFA: Joey MacDonald, Meech. Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) Draper, Osgood, Modano, and Lidstrom all retire I think. Re-sign Eaves and possibly Miller. Get Hudler out of town somehow for a gritty 3rd liner. Re-sign Howard and Ericsson, assuming he finishes the year strong and plays decent in the playoffs. Salei is a toss up for me right now. Could retire possibly, he's getting up there in age. Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi Cleary-Abdelkader-UFA/Miller Eaves-Helm-UFA -UFA UFA-Rafalski Stuart-Kronwall Ericsson-UFA Howard Now, for the one or two open spots in the bottom 6, I want someone like David Clarkson, Dan Carcillo, Jason Chimera, Derek Dorsett, Brandon Prust, Brian Sutherby, Matt Hendricks, Ryan Jones, Zenon Konopka, Jared Boll, Mike Brown, Kyle Chipchura, Chris Thorburn, Nate Thompson, and the list goes on..a gritty guy who can put up a few points as well. For a replacement if Nick does indeed retire, my top reasonable choices to take his spot are Ryan Suter, Keith Yandle, or Brent Seabrook. As far as the 3rd pairing defenseman, a stay at home guy like John Erskine, Jim Vandermeer, Mark Stuart, Matt Walker, Matt Carkner, Shane O'Brien, Sheldon Brookbank, and the list goes on. Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 True. Another guy that comes to mind is Tim Gleason in Carolina. Nick is truly irreplacable..
Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 Gleason would be a nice addition; Michigan native, and a solid defensive minded Dman similar to Stuart. Also, if we decide to part ways with Salei, another local guy that would fit the bill of a defensive minded 3rd pairing defenseman is Matt Greene in Los Angeles. gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 Am I the only one who doesn't even want to think about Howard's contract until after the playoffs? I'm all for signing him, but if he struggles to raise his game or even just maintain his regular season game again this year, i don't want to see him getting a big, long contract. Playoffs and regular season are just too different and he's still not a proven playoff performer yet. If he does prove himself though, he'll likely be demanding at least $4 million. Hopefully he thinks team first, but in this crazy league, an agent could find a way to justify an even bigger contract and there'd probably be more than a few teams willing to take it on. Either way, its going to be a very interesting situation.

Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) Modano, Draper and maybe Hudler will be coming off the books so that will cover Howard's raise. Of course those players will need to be replaced. The Wings will still be in great shape Cap wise next season. I also think Salei is gone and Kindl gets his spot. Lidstrom is playing too well to retire. He'll win his 7th Norris and be back. Edited December 16, 2010 by Hatethedrake!
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 As naive as this may sound - J-Ho comes across as a pretty sincere/humble kind of guy...True he could command up to $4 mill per season, but I'm hoping he signs for a "reasonable" amount (whatever that may be - if $4 mill then so be it) for an extended period of time. It's been a while since we've had a long-term netminder developed in our own system (other than Ozzie), and personally I like the idea of developing our own guys (especially our 'core' guys) instead of relying upon other teams to develope players for us, and then we sign them via UFA. All I know is, that during training camp this fall, I met him at the bar and in a drunk conversation i asked him how has it been coming to TC for the past 5 years and he said it was great and he hopes to be here for another ten years lol. Oh drunk talks haha.
Dave 324 Report post Posted December 16, 2010 Christian Ehrhoff looks good. He's +6 with 14 pts on the season. For a little over 3 mil I think he'd be a solid pickup.

Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 17, 2010 Love the addition of Brad Richards. Flip really is proving this season he IS NOT a second line center, time to look for someone for now to fill that spot. Ewww no thanks. No way he should make as much as Datsyuk. Richards is a pure offensive player, no thanks. I know he's sexy from an offensive stand of point (75-90 points any given year), but he sucks defensively. I say we go hard after Parise for around 6 mil and force the Devils hands. Or with Andrew Ladd. But as UFAs, I would mind seeing Frolov or Gagne

As I said he has not proved himself to be a top 6 player. I see the offseason brining the wings a third line winger, and a second line center. PS with Big E playing better I vote give Kindl a chance as the 6th D-man. Edited December 17, 2010 by Shaman464
